Kaldyum is used in the prevention and treatment of potassium deficiency states in the body. Deficiency can be caused by taking medications, e.g. diuretics, or certain diseases (e.g. gastrointestinal diseases with vomiting or diarrhea).

Kaldyum – composition

The main component of the drug is potassium chloride.

Caldyum – precepts

Main reason Caldyum is to replenish potassium deficiencies in the body. This deficiency causes water and electrolyte imbalance, the aim of the drug is to compensate for it. Detailed information on indications is included in the package leaflet.

Caldyum – action

Caldyum regulates muscle tension, is responsible for restored balance in nerve conduction, regulates blood pressure and the heart rhythm disturbed by the lack of potassium.

Kaldyum – contraindications

If you are allergic to potassium or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, you should not take it. Caldyum it is also not recommended if you suffer from hyperkalemia (excess serum potassium caused by certain diseases and medications), adrenal insufficiency, kidney failure, acidosis (acidification of the blood, e.g. in a diabetic patient) and tissue trauma (severe burns covering a large part of the body surface). It must also not be taken if the patient has severe kidney disease. It is forbidden to use Caldyumif you have Addison’s disease (chronic adrenal insufficiency) and are not being treated for it. Contraindications also include: acute dehydration, gastrointestinal obstruction or narrowing of the esophagus, making it difficult to swallow.

Kaldyum – dosage

Always use this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The doctor determines the dosage according to the individual needs of the patient. Adults prophylactically: 2 or 3 capsules a day. Adults in treatment: The recommended dose is 5 to 12 capsules a day, with regular monitoring of serum potassium. If the daily dose exceeds 2 capsules, it should be administered in two or more divided doses. In general, the capsule should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, with or after a meal.

The price of the drug ranges from PLN 17,49 for extended-release capsules (600 mg, 50 pcs) to PLN 27,99 for 600 mg capsules, 100 pcs. The drug substitutes are Prolongatum Sentence, Potassium i Asparagus.
