Calcium Aflofarm is used in the treatment of calcium deficiencies, especially in states of increased demand, and as an adjunct in the treatment of allergic diseases, upper respiratory tract infections, and osteoporosis.

Calcium Aflofarm – indications and dosage

Calcium Aflofarm is recommended:

  1. in calcium deficiencies (especially in states of increased demand),
  2. supportive in the treatment of allergic diseases,
  3. in the treatment of upper respiratory tract infections,
  4. in the treatment of osteoporosis.

Drug dosage

Calcium Aflofarm is a syrup to be taken by mouth. Do not exceed the recommended dose of the preparation.

  1. Adults. 15 ml 2-3 × / day.
  2. Children 2-11. years of age 2,5-5 ml twice / day.
  3. Children 12-17. 5-10 ml 2-3 times / day.

Calcium Aflofarm and contraindications

The contraindication to the use of Calcium Aflofarm are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
  2. hypercalcemia,
  3. hiperkalciuria,
  4. galactosemia.

Calcium Aflofarm – warnings

  1. In order to avoid overdosage, check that other medications do not contain calcium.
  2. Calcium Aflofarm with high doses of vitamin D3 should not be used.
  3. Particular caution should be exercised in patients treated with cardiac glycosides or epinephrine (risk of arrhythmias) and in those treated with tetracycline antibiotics or thiazide diuretics.
  4. The preparation should be used with caution in the case of: renal failure, renal dysfunction, heart diseases, nephrolithiasis, gout, a tendency to the formation of deposits in the urinary tract; in the above cases, it is recommended to consult a doctor before using the preparation.
  5. Calcium Aflofarm contains sucrose; Patients with hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should consult a doctor.
  6. Before using the preparation in pregnant women or during breastfeeding, a doctor should be consulted.

Calcium Aflofarm and other substances

  1. Oral calcium preparations reduce the absorption of tetracyclines and fluoride compounds, including fluoroquinolones and sulfasalazine (a break of at least 3 hours between these drugs and calcium salts is required).
  2. High doses of calcium in combination with vitamin D3 may reduce the effect of verapamil and other calcium channel blockers.
  3. High doses of calcium administered simultaneously with cardiac glycosides (digoxin and strophanthin derivatives) intensify their effect and may lead to arrhythmias.
  4. Calcium Aflofarm enhances the effect of sulfonamides.
  5. Taking thiazide diuretics may cause hypercalcaemia, metabolic alkalosis, and renal failure.
  6. Vitamin D3, glucocorticosteroids, parathyroid hormone, citric acid and acidity of the diet increase calcium absorption, while calcitonin, excess lipids, alkaline food, phytates (e.g. cereals), oxalates (e.g. spinach, rhubarb) and phosphates (e.g. milk and its products) reduce the absorption of calcium.

Calcium Aflofarm – side effects

While taking Calcium Aflofarm, the following may occur:

  1. flatulence
  2. constipation
  3. diarrhea,
  4. in patients with renal insufficiency, oral administration of high doses of calcium leads to hypercalcemia, the symptoms of which are: anorexia, gastrointestinal disorders, muscle weakness, polyuria, kidney damage.
