Calcium 500 D is used in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, osteomalacia and rickets, in states of increased demand for calcium, states of calcium deficiency in the body (diet, malabsorption syndromes, alcohol abuse, heavy smoking), and convalescence after prolonged immobilization.

Calcium 500 D is a combined preparation containing vitamins and minerals.
Calcium 500 D – indications and dosage
Calcium 500 D is recommended for the prevention and treatment of:
- states of increased demand for calcium,
- states of calcium deficiency in the body (diet, malabsorption syndromes, alcohol abuse, heavy smoking),
- after prolonged immobilization,
- osteoporosis,
- osteopenii,
- osteomalacia and rickets.
Dosage of the preparation
Calcium 500 D is in the form of an effervescent powder. It should be taken orally. Periodic breaks in taking the drug are recommended.
- Adults and adolescents. 1 bag 2 × / day, max. 4 bags / day.
- Children after 3 years of age 1 bag 1 × / day.
Calcium 500 D and contraindications
Contraindications to the use of Calcium 500 D are:
- allergy to vit. D or calcium preparations,
- hypercalcemia in the course of hyperparathyroidism, hypothyroidism,
- dissemination of neoplastic diseases (bone metastases, multiple myeloma),
- sarcoidozy,
- hypervitaminosis D,
- renal failure with hyperphosphataemia (risk of build-up),
- fenyloketonuria,
- hiperkalciuria,
- calcium kidney stones,
- should not be used in children under the age of 3.
Calcium 500 D – warnings
- Caution is advised in patients prone to stone formation in the urinary tract; in these people it is recommended to increase the amount of fluid consumed and periodic monitoring of calcium in the blood and urine.
- Calcium 500 D contains 137 mg of sodium in 1 sachet. Caution should be exercised in people with impaired renal function, and in patients on a low-sodium diet.
- Before using Calcium 500 D during pregnancy or breastfeeding, consult your doctor.
Calcium 500 D and other substances
Inform the doctor:
- about all recently taken drugs, especially if the patient has recently or is currently taking drugs that increase calcium absorption (vitamin D3, parathyroid hormone [a drug used to treat osteoporosis]),
- about taking medications that reduce calcium absorption (corticosteroids, anticonvulsants [e.g. phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone]), fluorides, tetracycline antibiotics, fluoroquinolones, thiazide diuretics (may increase the risk of hypercalcaemia), antihypertensive drugs used in the treatment of high blood pressure groups of the so-called calcium antagonists (risk of weakening their effect), digitalis glycosides,
- it is recommended to take the drug between meals because excess fats and cereal products such as spinach, rhubarb and phosphates contained in milk and its products reduce, while sour foods increase the absorption of the drug,
- smoking and drinking alcohol reduces the effect of the preparation.
Calcium 500 D – side effects
The use of Calcium 500 D may cause:
- flatulence
- constipation
- diarrhea
- hypercalcaemia or increased levels of calcium in the blood (especially in people with impaired kidney function).
