There is nothing more natural than the birth of a baby. A normal pregnancy should ideally end in independent childbirth, which is beneficial for both mother and child. But more and more often, doctors and women in labor are using a cesarean section – an operation on the abdominal cavity, in which the birth of a child is faster. Caesarean sections, like all surgical interventions, are subdivided into planned and emergency.
Indications for planned operations:
- The size of the mother’s internal pelvis is too small, and the fetus is large;
- Pelvic or transverse presentation of the fetus;
- Incorrect placenta presentation;
- The presence of a scar on the uterus from a previous cesarean section;
- Large cervical fibroids;
- Multiple pregnancy;
- Chronic illness of the mother that does not allow the natural course of childbirth (retinal detachment, high myopia, kidney and cardiovascular diseases, varicose veins);
An emergency caesarean section is performed when:
- Termination of labor or its slowing down against the background of amniotic fluid withdrawal;
- Acute lack of oxygen in the fetus;
- Premature placental abruption;
- Threatened uterine rupture.
Bearing in mind that the first operations to retrieve the child were carried out only if the pregnant woman died, in the name of saving the child, it is necessary to very thoughtfully and responsibly weigh the pros and cons if the idea arose to resort to an operation without sufficient then medical indications.
Benefits of a Caesarean section:
- Childbirth is painless and quick, during planned operations, epidural anesthesia is used, the woman in labor is conscious all the time and immediately after birth has the opportunity to attach the baby to the breast;
- The integrity of the vagina is preserved – it does not stretch, there are no internal and external ruptures, after rehabilitation, sexual activity passes without problems;
- Absence of hemorrhoids and prolapse of the walls of the uterus and pelvic organs;
- Minimal impact on the child, the head does not undergo deformation, as in natural childbirth.
Negative sides:
- Surgical intervention is always a risk for the mother, the postoperative period requires adherence to certain rules, full communication and care for the baby will not be available to mom from the first hours and days after birth;
- In addition to physiological, a woman experiences psychological stress, many consider themselves “not completely” a mother;
- It is necessary to plan the next pregnancy after a long period of time (individually for each woman in labor, depending on the size of the scar and the ability of the uterus to contract);
- In many cases, there are problems with starting breastfeeding, especially if an emergency operation was performed under general anesthesia and the baby was not immediately attached to the breast;
- Abdominal cavity surgery involves a transverse incision of the muscles, so those who are actively involved in sports and keep an eye on their figure will have to spend a long time on restoring their attractiveness;
- Pain in the seam area will manifest itself for a long time and interfere with a full life;
- A child who has not gone all the way with his mother experiences a colossal drop in intracranial pressure, such children need especially careful care, more often than others have problems with a weakened immune system, are prone to food allergies.
Recently, it has become “fashionable” to do cesarean sections in any case, unscrupulous doctors will fulfill “any whim for your money”, and young mothers are sure that they will only benefit from the fact that they will quickly and relatively safely give birth to a baby. It makes more sense to approach the natural childbirth process as a job – today you have a work that won’t happen tomorrow. Yes, it hurts and scares, requires tremendous physical and mental strength, but together with your baby you will go a wonderful and magical path. The pain will end instantly, and the happiness from the birth of the baby will be enormous.
Be healthy, take care of yourself and your children.
