Caesarean and regular labor: 10 differences a baby feels

The natural and surgical way of giving birth to a baby – healthy-food-near-me.com found ten differences that a baby feels on himself.

The fact that a newborn child is tiny does not mean at all that he cannot fully feel everything that is happening to him. Yes, we do not remember the moment of birth, memories, as a rule, appear from the age of three, but, as modern medicine claims, the experience of being born does not pass without a trace for a human being. At the moment of birth, the baby feels everything that happens to him, and the painfulness of the process (or vice versa) can have consequences not only for his physical condition. Agree, there is a significant difference between home birth, for example in water – with dim lights, soft music, and childbirth in the hospital – with a bright cutting light and cold air after the womb. In the second case, especially if the birth process took place with complications, the baby will not take long and “decide” that he is not welcome here and want to come back.

But we are talking about natural childbirth, and there is another way of birth – surgical. And the experience that a baby born in this way gets is significantly different. healthy-food-near-me.com finds out what the difference is.

Nature is a very prudent lady. During childbirth, the baby’s body is naturally squeezed, which helps to flush out fluid in the lungs. Babies who are born with the help of cesarean do not experience such pressure, therefore, in order to remove fluid from their lungs, other methods have to be used.

Discomfort from removing fluid

And here already from these very methods some discomfort is possible. However, there is only one way: the liquid from the baby’s lungs has to be sucked out with the help of a special device. At the same time, not all of it can be removed, which can subsequently lead to diseases of the bronchopulmonary system – it is believed that children born with the help of cesarean are more prone to this type of disease.

Being in the amniotic fluid for nine months, and then, suddenly finding itself in the air, the baby’s body also collides with a sharp drop in atmospheric pressure. With natural childbirth, a baby who is moving into the world gradually has a chance to get used to a different pressure, the necessary hormones begin to be produced in his body. With a cesarean, he does not have such an opportunity, therefore, even minor hemorrhages in the brain are possible from a pressure drop.

A sharp change in air temperature

Being born in a natural way, gradually, the baby has the opportunity at least a little to get used to the ambient temperature. Although the drop, even in this case, still turns out to be sharp, because in my mother’s belly it was in greenhouse conditions (the temperature inside the womb is about + 37˚С), and the temperature in the delivery room is in any case lower. During surgery, the change in air temperature is even sharper, although with the proper agility of the midwives, the baby does not have time to freeze.

A child who is born surgically does it in a much more painless way: it does not have to be pulled and tugged so that it is quickly born into the world. Which, however, is not so bad: the risk of injuries that can occur due to the negligence of midwives is here reduced to almost zero.

When a child is born naturally, then, moving along the birth canal of the mother’s body, he meets with many bacteria, which is extremely useful: firstly, it immediately starts training his immune system, and secondly, in this way the intestinal microflora begins to form baby. With a cesarean section, a baby with these bacteria does not occur, which in some cases may subsequently affect the child’s health, leading, for example, to dysbiosis.

Yes, as a result of natural childbirth, it may happen that fingerprints of midwives may remain on your baby’s body, if the process was not smooth and the baby was actively helped to be born. During a surgical operation, of course, nothing like this will happen, no special efforts are required to take out the child, in this case.

Delay in first contact with mom

Recently, more and more people are talking about how important it is to immediately attach the newborn to the mother’s breast – to establish close contact, and also so that, having felt his own body, he calms down. Say, in this way, the birth for a baby is softer and less stressful. With a caesarean section, this contact may be delayed because it will take the mother time to recover. However, do not be discouraged, this delay is unlikely to be able to significantly affect the contact of the mother with the baby, because such a connection is one of the strongest in the world.

Newborns are born hungry – usually the baby is not averse to having a snack immediately after birth. But if it appeared as a result of cesarean, then feeding may be delayed, it depends on the medications that the mother was given during the operation. In addition, a woman in labor may not have enough milk immediately after surgery.

For a caesarean section, doctors may use general or epidural (injection into the spine) anesthesia. When injected, the effect of the pain reliever does not affect the baby in any way, but with general anesthesia, the drug can penetrate the placenta, which can lead to the child being lethargic and sleepy in the first days after birth.
