Cabbage wrongly has a reputation as an uninteresting vegetable. It is considered hard to digest, not particularly healthy, and generally quite common. However, cabbage is not bad in itself, on the contrary – its “negative image” is created by sausages, pork knuckles and bacon added to it. Without these additives, cabbage will not be so caloric, and what’s more, it will have a good effect on our body.

Cabbage is generally low in calories, as 100 grams contain only 40 kcal. There is as much vitamin C in it as in lemon, it also contains all the B vitamins, as well as some rutin, vitamins K, E, and a lot of vitamin A. In addition, we will find sulfur in it, which positively affects the appearance of the skin, hair and nails, and inside it is a real wealth of calcium, potassium and magnesium. The outer leaves contain the most iron and folic acid, so it’s not worth throwing them away – you can chop them up and add them to a salad or soup.

Cabbage juice and compress. Why is it worth using it in the form of compresses?

Exceptional healing properties are hidden in cabbage juice. If we take it orally, we will strengthen our immunity. Drinking cabbage juice also helps with swelling caused by fluid retention in the body, as well as anemia. The treatment should last for three weeks – then we drink one glass of juice a day.

Cabbage juice has been used for years as a remedy for stomach ulcers. In addition to drinking cabbage juice, it is also treated in the form of compresses – it will be especially effective for various rheumatic pains, healing wounds, ulcers and neurological pains. Scientists are increasingly talking about the anti-cancer properties of this vegetable. The indoles, i.e. chemical compounds found in it, are currently helpful in the prevention of hormone-related cancers (prostate, testicular, breast and ovarian cancer).

Cabbage for arthritis

Joint pain in arthritis can be reduced by applying cabbage leaf compresses. They will also help with sprains and can be used several times a day. Wrap recipe:

  1. We tear off the 2-3 largest outer leaves,
  2. We break them with a pestle, so that they soften, but gently enough not to make holes,
  3. We put them on the radiator for a few minutes,
  4. A warm compress is placed on the affected joint, wrapped with a bandage or a towel,
  5. We leave it for 15 minutes.

For breastfeeding mothers

Cabbage is also a way to protect against mastitis. A few days after giving birth, a new mother’s breasts become hard, heavy, and the baby may not be able to suck. As a result, the milk is not extracted properly, which can cause mastitis. Then, cabbage leaves should be kept in the fridge – they need to be cold, so some people put them in the freezer for a while, then you need to break them and make a compress – after half an hour we take a hot bath, and when the breasts soften, milk will flow from them . The baby will be able to suck the breast without any problems, so the risk of inflammation will disappear.
