Butternut squash or moskhata is the sweetest, dietary pumpkin variety known in agriculture. The homeland of the plant is the South of America, which is why it is thermophilic and ripens late. Growing a vegetable requires certain knowledge, therefore, not all summer residents of the middle lane manage to independently obtain the fruits of moskhata.
The variety of vegetables we are considering is subdivided into several varieties and is famous for its richness of vitamins.
The most famous representatives of Moskhat:
- Muscat De Provence.
- “Pearl”.
The Provencal variety is known for its high yield and is a priority among vegetable growers. The pumpkin has a round, flattened shape and an orange, ribbed rind that is difficult to damage. It grows and winds strongly, therefore large fields are used for pumpkin plantations. The consistency of the pulp is dense, the taste is sweet and slightly tart. The advantages of “De Provence” are that the fruits can be stored for a long time, as well as transported without the risk of deformation.
“Pearl” pumpkin is considered a newer variety, but is not inferior in popularity. The grown fruits are formed on strong, weaving stems and are small pear-shaped kernels, the average weight of which varies from 3 to 6 kg. The pulp is dense, juicy and sweet, even consumed fresh.
The culture is mid-late and loves warmth
Vegetable fruits contain a huge amount of substances that have a beneficial effect on health: calcium, fiber, iron, magnesium, carotene, acids, phosphorus, and are also a source of useful oil used in food and medicine.
The product is not only healthy, but also tasty, which explains its high demand.
Butternut pumpkin varieties are propagated by seedling and non-seedling methods.
The first is to seed the material in small containers for a period of 7-10 days. This period of time is enough for the seeds to germinate and they can be planted in the ground. The optimum favorable temperature for the plant is 25 degrees Celsius.
Also, seeds can be sown directly into the soil by placing them in holes to a depth of 6 cm.The distance between plants in the garden bed varies from 80 to 130 cm.
The earth must be warm and dry, stagnant water is strictly prohibited
Vegetable growers recommend dealing with pumpkin from the beginning of April and ending planting at the end of May. Before ripening and harvesting, it takes from 3 to 5 months, during which you need to feed the soil with compost and humus, not forgetting about systematic watering and loosening of the earth. After the formation of ovaries on the stems, watering is halved.
Culture does not require increased attention to itself. With proper, easy care, your labor will be rewarded with a high, succulent harvest.
