Butterflies and flowers: how to connect them

A new trend in garden design is live butterflies. All Europe is concerned about the question: how to attract beautiful insects to their sites.

One of the fashion trends in landscape design in 2009 will be attracting butterflies to gardens and flower beds. Already, on the pages of European gardening magazines, tips on how to make butterflies flutter over your flower beds are increasingly appearing. These tips are also suitable for central Russia. So:

  • The main condition is that as many “native” plants and classic varieties should grow in the garden. And here again the natural style, which has come into fashion, with its buttercups, daisies and bells, is the best fit.
  • Set aside space for wild plants. This may be a “pharmacy” garden, which will appear aromatic herbs– oregano, lavender, hyssop, mint, etc.
  • Keep in mind that some breeder-bred flower varieties do not attract butterflies at all. First of all, we are talking about species with double inflorescences – chrysanthemums, roses, etc. Butterflies – for simplicity: if you plant more plants in the flower beds with simple flowers, you will not only create a special natural atmosphere on the site, but you will also be able to admire the fluttering guests every day.
