Butapirazole is a topical preparation containing a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The preparation takes the form of rectal suppositories or ointments.

Butapirazole ointment – composition

The active substance in Butapirazole is phenylbutazone, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) from the pyrazole derivatives group.

The preparation is indicated in the local treatment of inflammation and pain, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, periarticular inflammation, discopathy, acute gout attack, and thrombophlebitis.

Butapirazole ointment – action

Butapirazole has a strong anti-inflammatory, weaker analgesic and slightly antipyretic effect. Phenylbutazone prevents the synthesis of prostaglandins, substances that play a significant role in the development of inflammation. Phenylbutazone reduces the symptoms of an inflammatory response (swelling, pain, joint stiffness). It is not antimicrobial. After a single application to the skin in the form of an ointment, about 5 percent of the drug is absorbed.

Butapirazole ointment – contraindications

The contraindication to the use of the preparation is treatment with chemotherapeutic drugs and other drugs disturbing the bone marrow function. Do not use on damaged skin. Do not use the preparation in children under 14 years of age. Do not use in pregnant women or in breastfeeding women.

Butapirazole ointment – dosage

Butapirazole suppositories are used rectally. Adults and adolescents over 14 years of age: 1 suppository (250 mg) 1-2 times a day. The drug should not be used for more than 7 days. Suppositories should not be divided. During the treatment lasting more than 5 days, it is recommended to visit the doctor again and check the blood counts. Taking the drug at the lowest effective dose for the shortest time necessary to relieve symptoms reduces the risk of side effects. In the case of Butapirazole ointment, a strip about 5 cm long should be squeezed out of the tube at one time. Two or three times a day, the painful areas should be lubricated with a thin layer of the product. The ointment can be rubbed in to increase its therapeutic effect. Do not use intensive rubbing in the event of phlebitis.

The price for suppositories Butapirazole is approx. PLN 12 for a package of 250 mg (5 suppositories). The price for Butapirazol ointment is about PLN 20 for a 30 g tube (50 mg / g).
