Burnt by the Sun: How to Protect Hair in Summer?

Solar radiation and indoor air conditioning, chloride water and sea salt, wind and rain – all this does not in the best way affect the condition of the hair. Woman’s Day will tell you how to protect hair in summer.

In summer, be sure to apply sun protection products to your hair.

Direct exposure to ultraviolet radiation is one of the main factors that negatively affect hair. There are two types of sun rays – alpha and beta. The former are very dry hair, making them brittle, while the latter can change their color. To protect your hair, apply a leave-in spray or cream with UVA and UVB protection factors before going outside. If you will be in the sun all day, it is better to take the protectant with you and apply it to the curls every two to three hours. Also, add Moisturizing Thermal Lotion for the scalp to the list of essential beauty products for the holiday: firstly, it will help cleanse and refresh the skin, and secondly, it moisturizes well. And, of course, you shouldn’t neglect the hats!

Argan oil products are particularly good at moisturizing hair.

But if it is quite possible to escape from the sun, then it is much more difficult to cope with an air conditioner in the room, which dries your hair very much. And the dry air makes the hair look lifeless, dull and difficult to style. Therefore, it is extremely important to intensively moisturize the curls. Masks, veils, creams, conditioners and oils successfully cope with this task. Look for products that contain argan, almond, or olive oils. Regularity is important here – you need to moisturize and nourish your hair at least once a week. It is also no secret that the beauty of hair depends on the state of the body as a whole. So don’t forget about proper nutrition and vitamins!

Oil and natural shampoo will protect hair from chlorine and sea salt.

Do not forget about hair care before and after swimming in the pool and the sea. Chlorine in the pool is an alkali that flushes out all the necessary elements from the hair cuticle. As a result, the curls become weak and, accordingly, brittle. In addition, chloride water can affect the shade of curls, especially if they are colored. So, for example, clarified strands from chloride water can acquire a greenish tint. Sea salt can also negatively affect the condition of the hair. It penetrates through the scales deep into the hair trunk, and the wind, drying the curls, thereby injures them. Therefore, so that after the vacation the hair does not turn into straw, it is better not to wet your hair in sea water. But if it is extremely difficult to do this, cosmetic oil will come to the rescue. Thanks to it, a protective film is formed on the hair that repels water. After bathing, rinse your hair thoroughly with shampoo (it is better that it does not contain sulfates and parabens).

In rain or windy weather, apply a leave-in moisturizer to your hair.

The adverse effects of rain and wind are underestimated by many. But in vain. City rain may contain heavy metal salts. Therefore, if you forgot your umbrella or like to walk in the summer rain, when you come home, be sure to rinse your hair. As for the wind, it can dry out your hair – and worse than conditioner! Moreover, simultaneously with high humidity, it is not able to change the structure of the hair for the better: to make them brittle and split. The fact is that at high humidity, the hair scales open, and oxygen, penetrating into them, adversely affects the curls. Therefore, in windy weather, it is worth taking a leave-in moisturizer or hair serum.

Hair waxes and pomade will help fix the curls.

Also during the summer months it is best to rest your hair and dry it naturally. Moreover, now there are many tools that will help to straighten hair, make curls or add volume to the hairstyle, without resorting to hair dryers and irons. By the way, in the composition of many styling beauty products there is an SPF factor. The main thing is to refrain from hairsprays containing alcohol: they are very dry hair. It is better to use waxes or pomade to fix the strands. When it comes to styling your hair, it all depends on your imagination.
