Why does a burning sensation appear when urinating? Is it a symptom of diseases? Does it mean infection with sexually transmitted diseases? Are there home remedies for pain when urinating? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.

Is burning when urinating a symptom of an illness?

Good day. I am asking for advice. I feel terrible pain when urinating. I feel it intensifies most just before the end of the urethra. Then there is a slightly sharper stinging and burning sensation. The worst thing about it is that I have to go to the toilet about 2 times more than before the pain started. I am ashamed to admit, but I am not a person who is a freak of cleanliness. I happened to walk and sleep in the same underwear for up to a week. However, this pain has only emerged recently.

Before that, I didn’t feel any burning sensation when urinating. The first time I felt a slight pain while urinating a few days after serving unprotected relationship. She wasn’t a stranger girl, I know her, and I wouldn’t suspect that she might have infected me with anything. Does the burning sensation I have described already mean that I am sick with something? What are the symptoms of burning sensation when urinating?

I do not have health insurance at the moment and I cannot afford a private medical appointment, so I would ask for home remedies for pain when urinating. Thank you.

Your doctor explains what a burning sensation when urinating may mean

Dear sir, these symptoms point to infection in the lower urinary tract. Symptoms may suggest an infection in the urethra as well as in the bladder. Unfortunately, you have given too little information to make a preliminary diagnosis more likely. Of course, a full diagnosis can be made by a doctor only after a careful interview and examination of the patient using the results of specific laboratory tests.

  1. Buy a test strip for urinary tract infections and do a basic test yourself.

The symptoms you indicated, i.e. pain while urinating, frequent urinationwhether the burning sensation in the urethra is characteristic of urinary tract infections, but does not allow for an accurate diagnosis of the disease. In the case of cystitis, haematuria and lower abdominal pain may be an additional differentiating symptom.

With urethritis, leakage from the urethra and redness and swelling around the mouth of the urethra may be observed. Fever can occur in both cases. You mentioned that the symptoms started after sexual contact. In this case, it is also worth excluding venereal diseases, including gonorrhea. It is a pity that you did not write whether similar symptoms also occur in your partner. It would be good for her to get tested as well.

In the case of lower urinary tract infections, treatment mainly involves the use of antibiotics, as the etiology is usually bacterial. Home treatment is not applicable because, as I mentioned, an antibiotic should be introduced. You can optionally use furazidine along with anti-inflammatory drugs and vitamin C. However, I cannot guarantee that this treatment will be sufficient. It is also worth using cranberry products that acidify the urine.

I would like to mention that the lack of personal hygiene greatly promotes the growth of bacteria in the area of the urethra which greatly increases the risk of developing an infection. Despite the lack of insurance, you should see your GP.
