Skin burn ointment is a quick and homemade way to minimize the pain and burning sensation that comes with burns. Appropriately selected ointment for the type of burn will effectively cool the painful area and eliminate symptoms such as blisters or fluid-filled blisters. Which ointment to choose for sun, chemical or thermal burns? Is a prescription or over-the-counter ointment better?

Skin burns – causes and symptoms

The skin as the outer layer of our body is extremely often exposed to burns. Sometimes carelessness or a moment of inattention is enough for the burn to seriously damage the skin structure. In the event of burns, stop skin contact with the factor that caused them as soon as possible. It is necessary to cool down irritated skin gradually. For this purpose, it is worth using a burn ointment that has cooling properties.

Skin burns can be caused by various external factors. The most common burns include sun, thermal, chemical and electrical burns. Burn symptoms, and especially their severity, largely depend on its degree. Grade XNUMX skin burns only affect the epidermis and cause redness, dryness and pain that increases when touched. With second-degree burns, when the dermis is damaged, blisters appear filled with clear fluid and the skin itself becomes moist.

The more difficult cases are third-degree burns, which damage not only the dermis but also the subcutaneous fat tissue. A fourth-degree burn basically destroys skin tissue, while damaging muscles and often bones. Recognizing the degree of burn is extremely important when choosing an ointment for burns.

Burn ointment – application

Burn ointment is usually used for first and second degree burns. The third and fourth degrees require a doctor’s intervention, selection of appropriate drugs, as well as operations or cyclical procedures. First degree burns can be treated with home remedies, such as natural compresses or compresses.

On the other hand, in the case of second-degree burns, in which the symptoms worsen, the ointment is the perfect choice. The ointment applied to burns leaves a so-called greasy film, thanks to which it stays longer on damaged skin. This, in turn, prolongs the action of the active substances contained in the ointment on burns.
