Bulgakovskaya Margarita: faithful lover, true friend, witch

Strong, bright, resolute, fearless, capable of great love and great sacrifice… What was she, Margarita, why did she become like this and how would she behave in modern realities?

Life in dislike any woman leads to depression. Such is Margarita at the beginning of the famous novel by Mikhail Bulgakov. Her outwardly prosperous life is empty and meaningless. Imprisoned in an unsuccessful marriage, she is barely alive, and yellow flowers — a gesture of despair — become a sign of a turning point. So in depression you can often emerge only by reaching the bottom and pushing off.

Her talented lover, however, is in the same place — at the bottom of his destructive melancholy. Although, as we already know, having finished reading the novel, he will not have the strength to get up to the light. And only thanks to the great love of Margarita and the mercy of a powerful benefactor, he will receive peace.

What is a woman in love capable of if she is hindered? She turns into a witch. For the sake of love, she is ready not only to meet her own Shadow, but also to serve any power, because for the first time she feels this power in herself. A previously worthless life takes on a clear meaning, and familiarity with her own diabolical nature makes her fearless.

Not everyone will endure a meeting with the eternal and superhuman, saving himself

Men are usually frightened and at the same time very attracted to witches. They seem to be the embodiment of a power unknown to men, and it is understandable why they were burned at the stake in dark times. Margarita — a true lover, a true friend, and at the same time a witch — wins the hearts of readers also because something superhuman, unearthly shines through in this image.

A mystical couple, an unrecognized genius and his beloved, are each captured by their own work: she is the salvation of her beloved, he is his creation. They dissolve in their meanings, their personality fades into the background. She is no more: she gained integrity only in order to give it all to him. He is no more: there is only a book that destroyed him, like a great temple in that city that the procurator hated so much.

Not everyone will endure a meeting with the eternal and superhuman, preserving himself. Perhaps that is why the heroes did not deserve the light, they deserve peace.

Modern Margaritas

Despite the fact that our contemporaries have more and more opportunities for self-realization, today there are many who devote themselves to the genius of their beloved. Many representatives of the strong half of humanity dream of meeting such a woman, not adapted to reality, which inexorably unfolds before them and destroys them, because it is too different from the world of their ideas.

In the process of life, which is often not at all as short as that of the heroes of the novel, Margarita loses herself more and more, giving herself up to service. Her talent is split off from her and placed in her husband (and she is also talented, because she is able to understand and admire what he does). But his ability for social adaptation is also split off and is completely in the hands of his wife. The two become one and do not exist alone.

At the same time, the whole world can know about him, no one will know about her: she gave him her soul, all her strength, without leaving herself the right to be a person. If this choice is dictated by love alone, then she is unlikely to regret it. But if she hides behind her husband from meeting her own strength, then one day she will feel that life is wasted.
