Bufenik

Bufenik is used for symptomatic treatment of fever or mild to moderate pain. The preparation is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, the active substance of which is ibuprofen. The drug is intended for temporary use, without consulting a doctor it can be used for a maximum of 4 days. The preparation is in the form of a syrup and is available without a prescription.

Bufenik – indications and dosage

Bufenik is intended for the treatment of:

  1. fever
  2. mild / moderate pain.

Drug dosage

Bufenik is in the form of a syrup and is intended for oral administration. Do not exceed the recommended dose of the drug as it may endanger your life or health. There should be a minimum 6-hour interval between doses.

  1. Orally, single doses are usually 7-10 mg / kg
  2. max. daily dose – 30 mg / kg bw.

Bufenik and contraindications to use

The following contraindications to taking Bufenik are listed:

  1. allergy to any ingredient of the preparation or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,
  2. III trimester of pregnancy,
  3. unexplained disorders of hematopoiesis,
  4. severely impaired liver or kidney function,
  5. severe uncontrolled heart disorders
  6. History of gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation related to NSAID use
  7. active or recurrent gastric or duodenal ulcer disease,
  8. cerebral or other bleeding,
  9. use in children who have ever experienced allergy symptoms in the form of runny nose, cutaneous urticaria or bronchial asthma after taking acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,
  10. use of the preparation with a concentration of 100 mg / 5 ml in children up to 6 months of age. (7 kg bw),
  11. use of the preparation with a concentration of 200 mg / 5 ml – in children up to the age of 1 (10 kg bw).

Bufenik – drug restrictions

  1. Take the lowest dose possible for the shortest possible time.
  2. The preparation is intended for short-term use, it should not be used without consulting a doctor for more than 4 days.
  3. If symptoms worsen or persist, consult your doctor.
  4. Caution should be exercised in people with disorders of the haematopoietic system (intermittent porphyria), systemic lupus erythematosus, mixed connective tissue disease, gastrointestinal diseases (ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, stomach diseases), renal and / or liver and / or heart disorders , high blood pressure and blood clotting disorders.
  5. Caution should be exercised especially in children who are dehydrated e.g. due to diarrhea or vomiting.
  6. While your child is taking Bufenik, they should drink plenty of fluids, especially if they have fever, vomiting or diarrhea.
  7. Patients (especially children) prone to hypersensitivity reactions (e.g. bronchial asthma, allergic reactions after taking acetylsalicylic acid, allergic rhinitis), chronic swelling of the mucous membranes or other conditions with airway obstruction should consult a doctor before taking the preparation . They should be especially careful during treatment because of the risk of sudden bronchospasm.
  8. There is a risk of gastrointestinal haemorrhage, ulceration or perforation while taking this medicine, which may be fatal.
  9. In the event of gastrointestinal bleeding, see a doctor immediately. This is especially true of the elderly who suffer from diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (especially ulcers). They should start the treatment with small doses with the use of protective drugs.
  10. Please note that the possibility of side effects is higher in the elderly.
  11. It is not recommended to take ibuprofen concomitantly with ulcerogenic substances or with drugs that increase the risk of bleeding (antiplatelet, thrombotic or antidepressant drugs from the SSRI group). Serious digestive disorders such as ulcers or bleeding may occur.
  12. Do not use Bufenik with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
  13. In the event of symptoms of hypersensitivity (e.g. rash), it is recommended to discontinue treatment and consult a physician.
  14. Taking the drug may cause anaphylactic shock.
  15. Taking ibuprofen in high doses for too long puts you at risk of a heart attack or stroke. Therefore, people with hypertension, increased cholesterol, diabetes and smoking should consult a physician before taking the preparation.
  16. Kidney failure may develop with prolonged use of painkillers.
  17. Patients with glucose-galactose malabsorption, fructose intolerance or sucrose-isomaltase deficiency, and those with diabetes should not take this medicine as it contains glucose and sucrose.
  18. The drug may cause temporary impairment of female fertility.
  19. The preparation is not recommended for women in the first and second trimester of pregnancy. They can only use it after consulting a doctor and when absolutely necessary.
  20. The preparation is contraindicated by women in the third trimester of pregnancy.
  21. Women who are breast-feeding should see a doctor before taking Bufenik.
  22. Taking the drug may affect the ability to drive motor vehicles, dizziness, headaches and blurred vision may appear.

Bufenik with other drugs

There may be an interaction between ibuprofen and:

  1. acetylsalicylic acid or other antiplatelet drugs (e.g. dipyridamole, ticopidine, tyrofiban) and SSRI antidepressants (e.g. fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline, citalopram) – gastrointestinal bleeding may occur,
  2. diuretics and antihypertensive drugs – ibuprofen may reduce the effectiveness of these preparations,
  3. anticoagulants (warfarin, acenocoumarol, heparin) – risk of bleeding,
  4. lithium, methotrexate – the risk of increasing their side effects,
  5. cardiac glycosides (e.g. digoxin),
  6. phenytoin, lithium – non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs – their blood levels may increase,
  7. cyclosporin or tacrolimus – the risk of nephrotoxicity increases,
  8. zidovudine – a longer period of bleeding,
  9. corticosteroids – the risk of side effects (e.g. bleeding) from the gastrointestinal tract increases,
  10. sulphonylureas (antidiabetic drugs) – exercise caution and monitor blood glucose levels,
  11. preparations used to treat gout (probenecid, sulfinpyrazone) may slow down the excretion of ibuprofen,
  12. ibuprofen may interfere with the anti-platelet (anti-aggregation) effect of acetylsalicylic acid when used in low doses.
  13. alcohol should not be consumed during treatment with the drug.

Bufenik – side effects

The use of Bufenik may cause the following side effects:

  1. heartburn, diarrhea, indigestion, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, flatulence, gastritis, headache and dizziness, insomnia, agitation, irritability, visual disturbances, tinnitus or psychotic reactions
  2. very rare: allergic and anaphylactic reactions (skin rash, itching, hives, purpura, angioedema, swelling of the face, tongue, larynx, bronchospasm or shortness of breath, asthma, low blood pressure and life-threatening anaphylactic shock); Heart arythmia; thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis (first symptoms are fever, sore throat, mouth ulcers, flu-like symptoms, epistaxis, bruising, ecchymosis, etc.), anemia,
  3. rare: toxic spread dermatosis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, gastric ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding (melaena, bloody vomiting), worsening of colitis and Crohn’s disease, liver dysfunction, kidney failure, decreased urine output (oliguria), papillary necrosis kidney disease, increased sodium in the blood, edema, hypertension, heart failure. Isolated cases of symptoms associated with aseptic meningitis have been reported in individuals with autoimmune diseases (e.g. lupus erythematosus).
  4. long-term use of ibuprofen in high doses may increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke.
