Buckwheat for a child: how to cook porridge? Video
A child older than 4 months is no longer enough breast milk or milk formulas – vegetables are introduced into his diet for full development, and cereals by 5-7 months. Among the recommended ones, there is also buckwheat, which contains a lot of iron, vitamins and lecithin. Such complementary foods are given to the child in the form of cereals, but they should be cooked differently than usual for adults.

Some pediatricians recommend giving children their first cereals without salt and sugar. But if you think it tastes better, use saline and fructose syrup to make it. It is sold in the diet section of supermarkets or pharmacies.
To make fructose syrup, you need:
- 100 g fructose
- 50 g bottled drinking water
Pour water into a saucepan, place it on the stove and bring it to a boil. Pour in fructose, stir it well in water, reduce heat and boil the syrup, stirring occasionally, for 10-12 minutes. Pour it into a clean, sterilized bottle with a lid and store in the refrigerator. The shelf life of fructose syrup should not exceed 3 days.
After 7–8 months, fructose can be replaced with the same amount of granulated sugar, after a year granulated sugar can be used for making cereals in its pure form
For 1 tsp saline solution. water should be added 2 g of salt.
To cook buckwheat porridge for a child from 5 months to a year, you will need:
- 2 tbsp buckwheat
- 1 glass of water
- ½ glass of milk
- 1 tsp fructose syrup
- 1 tsp salt solution
Sort out the groats, rinse in running water, pour it into a clean, dry frying pan and lightly heat it so that it dries and turns light brown. Pour the cereals into a small saucepan, cover the buckwheat with water, bring to a boil and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, for 30 minutes. Throw the cereal into a fine sieve and rub it through it, do not pour the broth, but again pour it into the grated buckwheat.
The sieve can be replaced with a blender, but it is better to use a separate kitchen appliance to prepare meals for a small child.
Pour grated cereal and broth into a saucepan, add fructose syrup and salt solution, milk. Stir, bring to a boil and simmer the porridge covered over low heat for another 10 minutes.
How to cook buckwheat for a child
It is imperative to give buckwheat porridge to a child even after he turns 12 months old. To increase its beneficial properties, it is better to cook buckwheat in milk and with the addition of butter.
You will need:
- ½ cup buckwheat
- 2 / 3 cup water
- 1 glass of milk
- 1 tsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp butter
- salt on the tip of the knife
Sort the buckwheat, rinse, lightly fry in a dry frying pan or in the oven. Pour the cereal into a saucepan, add water, boil and, reducing heat to low, cook for 20 minutes. Add milk, butter, salt and sugar to a saucepan and stir. Increase the heat, and after the liquid begins to boil, reduce it to a minimum and leave the porridge to simmer under the lid for another 20 minutes.
