If we choose the one from the human organs that can truly control our behavior, then it will not be the heart, not the stomach, and not even what you are thinking about now … but the bladder. The heart can be ordered, hunger can be endured, desire can be extinguished. But forcing yourself not to go to the toilet on time in a small way will not work.
8 important facts about the main organ – in our review.
Fact 1. The human bladder can hold up to 700 ml of fluid.
This is when it comes to men. In the case of women, the numbers will be slightly less – up to 500 ml. In the muscle walls of the bladder, receptors are located that transmit signals to the brain about the filling of the organ. Each person has their own individual limit, but on average, the picture looks like this. 100–150 ml – signals about the beginning of the filling of the bladder. 250-300 ml – moderate urge to urinate. 300 ml is a clear demanding urge.
Fact 2. The bladder cannot burst from fluid overflow.
The bladder is extremely elastic. On its inner walls, transitional epithelial cells are located, which look like folds or wrinkles. Thanks to these wrinkles, the organ is stretched like an accordion. In order for the bladder to burst, not only a colossal amount of fluid is needed, but also an obligatory external influence: for example, a blow or a strong push.
Fact 3. Cannot be tolerated for a long time.
In theory, a person may not go to the toilet for up to six hours with a full bladder. However, it is not worth doing this, especially regularly. The “big bang”, as we found out, is unlikely to happen. But another unpleasant thing can happen: bladder atony. This condition is characterized by a lack of urge to urinate, even when the bladder is full. Inflammation and soreness when urinating is also a common consequence of irregular trips to the toilet.
Fact 4. Women are more prone to urinary tract infections.
The tube that carries urine out of the bladder is called the urethra. The urethra of a woman is shorter than the urethra of a man. It is easier for bacteria and germs to reach a woman’s bladder, making her more susceptible to infections.
Fact 5. It is beneficial to write in the shower.
First, it conserves water, and noticeably: in 2014, students from the University of East Anglia launched an initiative encouraging all students to use showers to urinate throughout the year, not the toilet. The results of the experiment were impressive: the amount of water saved amounted to 26 Olympic pools *. And secondly, thanks to the shower, the risk of infection of the urinary system is reduced.
Fact 6. A person with a full bubble is more persuasive in a debate.
This conclusion was made by scientists from California State University in 2015. The results of a study involving 22 students showed that subjects who drank 700 ml of water before a performance had better self-control and were more convincing than those who drank 500 ml **. Despite the impressive results, scientists did not recommend repeating the experiment to volunteers.
Fact 7. After 45 years, almost half of the female population suffers from incontinence.
According to world statistics, about 45% of the female population aged 40-60, to one degree or another, notes symptoms of involuntary loss of urine. The reasons for this phenomenon are very different. Incontinence can be caused, for example, by hormonal changes associated with menopause, which is one of the most common causes. With the onset of menopause, the tone of the muscles of the pelvic floor and small pelvis decreases, and this leads to a deterioration in the functioning of the bladder. Another common situation is an overactive bladder. In this case, the urge to urinate occurs more often than the real need. It is quite possible to correct this condition under the supervision of a urologist and a nutritionist (in particular, excluding spicy, salty and fatty foods). With stress urinary incontinence, when sneezing, coughing, laughter provoke leakage, exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor are effective – Kegel exercises. Such conditions often occur after pregnancy, childbirth, overuse and heavy lifting.
Fact 8. Most of the problems with urination are associated with inattention to your health.
There is a myth that urinary incontinence is a problem for the elderly, an “uncomfortable” problem. Therefore, women who experience this phenomenon under the influence of stress, for example, often live with incontinence for a long time, not daring to tell even a doctor about their condition. This leads to the fact that the symptom goes into an advanced stage and is less amenable to correction. And the woman herself plunges into the abyss of psychological discomfort. To prevent this from happening, at the first signs of incontinence, as well as with other unusual phenomena (cramps, discoloration of urine), contact a specialist. And before the condition subsides, use special hygiene products. Gaskets
