Bronchial asthma: symptoms and treatment. Video
Bronchial asthma is a serious chronic disease in which, under the influence of negative factors, bronchial spasm occurs, swelling of their mucous membranes and, as a result, repeated attacks of suffocation. To minimize or get rid of them altogether, it is important to identify asthma in a timely manner and begin competent treatment.
Symptoms of bronchial asthma in children
Bronchial asthma is a disease based on allergic inflammation of the respiratory system. Due to the increased secretion of mucus and spasm of the bronchi, the so-called bronchial obstruction occurs, which leads to difficulty breathing and an attack of severe coughing.
An attack can be provoked by both household allergens (animal hair, dust, food, pollen) and infectious (viruses, fungi, bacteria)
In addition, an asthmatic child may experience shortness of breath due to physical exertion, as well as strong excitement.
You can understand that the baby has an attack by the following symptoms:
- rapid shallow breathing, accompanied by whistling and wheezing
- labored exhalation
- swelling of the chest
- swelling of the veins in the neck
- blueness of the face
The duration of an attack can range from a few minutes to several hours. It is important to recognize it in a timely manner and alleviate the child’s suffering by helping him.
The diagnosis of bronchial asthma is not established immediately, but only with three or more repeated attacks of bronchial obstruction. The main risk group is children with allergies and children with allergies.
Treatment of bronchial asthma in a child
Treatment of bronchial asthma in a child should be comprehensive, not only during an attack of obstruction, but also outside of it. It is important, if possible, to eliminate allergens that cause any negative reaction in the child (give the pet into the good hands; exclude from the diet foods to which the baby has food allergies; get rid of carpets, upholstered furniture and toys in which dust accumulates in large quantities and etc.). You should also carry out anti-inflammatory therapy and inhalations with drugs prescribed by a doctor (selected on an individual basis).
Hardening is of great importance, it allows you to strengthen the child’s body and makes it more resistant to viruses and bacteria
During the obstruction, you need to give the child urgent help. You can stop an attack with bronchodilators (Salbutamol, Fenoterol, etc.) and antihistamines. In severe cases, when the child’s condition does not improve, despite the measures taken, it is better to play it safe and call an ambulance.
Signs of asthma in adults
Bronchial asthma in adults is similar in its course to childhood asthma, however, if the baby’s symptoms can occur spontaneously and disappear just as spontaneously, an attack in an adult develops and stops longer and harder. Cough, shortness of breath and a feeling of tightness in the chest can occur even without exacerbation, and therefore adults must be in need of daily basic therapy and careful follow-up.
