Brodacid is a topical drug to treat warts. The preparation is available without a prescription, it is in the form of a liquid on the skin, and its main active substances are lactic acid and salicylic acid. Brodacid is intended for external use only, it can be used both by adults and children over 2 years of age. When should you not use Brodacid and what precautions should you take during treatment?

Brodacid – what kind of medicine is it?

Brodacid is an OTC dermatological drug (over-the-counter) in the form of a skin lotion used to treat warts topically. The main ingredients of the preparation that are responsible for its therapeutic effect are lactic acid and salicylic acid. The use of the drug should be carried out in accordance with the information contained in the leaflet.

In case of indications for treatment, adults can reach for Brodacid. Treatment of children aged 2–12 years must be under the supervision of a doctor, but the preparation cannot be used in children under 2 years of age.

Brodacid – composition

The Brodacid fluid consists of:

  1. lactic acid (50,4 mg in 1 g of liquid), which is 90 percent. lactic acid solution;
  2. salicylic acid (100 mg in 1 g of liquid);
  3. excipients: dimethyl sulfoxide (improves the penetration of active substances into the tissue) and nitrocellulose (2: 1 in ethanol) + ethyl acetate.

Brodacid – action

Brodacid is a liquid drug, the action of which is due to the properties of its active substances.

  1. Lactic acid – contributes to the destruction of the callous layer of the skin.
  2. Salicylic acid – has a keratolytic effect, contributes to the softening and loosening of keratinized epidermis, facilitates its removal.

Brodacid – purpose and dosage

Brodacid is a preparation intended for the treatment of several types of warts: normal warts, periungual warts, mosaic warts and foot warts. Brodacid should be used according to the information provided in the leaflet – unless your doctor tells you otherwise. The described dosage of the drug applies to adults and children over 2 years of age, but younger children between 2 and 12 years of age should be treated under medical supervision.

The maximum duration of treatment with Brodacid is 6 to 8 weeks.

Dosage

Brodacid liquid should be applied to a clean and dry surface of the nipple twice a day. An applicator is attached to the container with the preparation, which, after unscrewing the bottle, remove it and let the excess of the substance flow into the bottle. Using the applicator, apply a small amount of the preparation to the surface of the nipple and wait for a while. The fluid dries to form a white film.

Only the surface of the nipple should be lubricated with Brodacid and avoid contact of the liquid with healthy skin and mucous membranes, and protect the eyes from it.

Brodacid – contraindications to use

The Brodacid leaflet informs about contraindications to the use of the preparation. These include:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the drug;
  2. flat warts, as well as changes around the eyes, on the mucous membranes, on the face;
  3. the period of pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  4. age less than 2 years;
  5. inflamed skin;
  6. the use of the drug on hairy and hairless moles.

Brodacid – warnings

When using the preparation, follow the recommendations described in the leaflet and follow the safety rules. Warnings for the use of Brodacid:

  1. treatment should be discontinued in the event of skin irritation;
  2. in case of accidental contact with the eyes or mucous membranes, rinse immediately with plenty of water;
  3. eyes, respiratory tract and mucous membranes should be protected against the drug and its vapors;
  4. the preparation cannot be used on healthy or damaged skin; if the drug comes into contact with the skin around the nipple, the area should be rinsed with water.
Attention

Salicylic acid is absorbed through the skin and may lead to systemic side effects typical of this substance. Therefore, Brodacid should only be applied directly to the wart.

Brodacid – side effects

When using Brodacid, there is a possibility of burning and erosion of the skin surrounding the application site, and temporary discoloration may remain after erosions. If, after using the drug, extensive reddening of the skin or other side effects appear, discontinue use of the drug and contact your doctor.

Brodacid – other information

Brodacid in no way affects the ability to drive vehicles or operate machinery / equipment.

Keep the drug away from children, at a temperature below 25 degrees Celsius, away from sources of heat and fire. Do not use after the expiry date.
