Externally, broccoli is similar to cauliflower, but its inflorescences are colored green. There are many peduncles on a small stem. The green buds form a loose head that is eaten. The cut head can grow back. In total, the growing season lasts 65 days.
Asparagus can be grown in any region. This resistant plant is not afraid of even the cold. Broccoli varieties differ in the ripening period. Most often, early and mid-season varieties are grown:
- “Tone”;
- “Verus”;
- “Fiesta”;
- Linda;
- “Arcadia”;
- “Fortune”;
- “Vitamin”;
- Green.
Cabbage is a moisture-loving plant. Caring for it involves regular watering, weeding and loosening. The plant is often attacked by pests. It is most commonly affected by keela, cabbage fly, white beetle and cruciferous fleas. For protection from pests, it is better to use ash, as well as joint planting with other crops.
Growing broccoli in the open field
Light, loose, low acid soil is best for growing cabbage. For fertilization, you can use ash and humus. The site should be located in partial shade. The plant tolerates cold better than heat and direct sunlight. Cabbage grows well after:
- potatoes;
- Luke;
- legumes;
- cucumbers;
- carrots;
- cereals.
Sowing seedlings begins in April. A month later, the seedlings will get stronger and will be ready for transplanting into open ground. It is important not to deepen the seedlings when planting. At first, they must be covered with plastic wrap to prevent the appearance of a cruciferous flea.
Broccoli seeds can be sown directly outdoors. But this should be done not earlier than May. Sowing is carried out in a checkerboard pattern. After the hole, water thoroughly. In order to prevent the soil from drying out and overheating, it must be mulched. Mulch will also help suppress weed growth. After a couple of months, you can harvest. It is important to cut the heads off before they bloom.
Broccoli is not capricious and can even withstand freezing temperatures. Its main advantage is its high yield. Even after cutting the head, the cabbage begins to form new inflorescences.
