Brick brazier: a step-by-step guide to building a street barbecue + photos of the best options for brick ovens

Camping is often accompanied by roast meat, fish and vegetables. The familiar brazier, which is distinguished by simplicity and efficiency, helps everyone in this. After metal stoves, a brick brazier comes in popularity – a design that successfully combines functionality and appearance.

Dacha owners can always experiment with their territory. Why not make a simple hearth for frying food with your own hands? After all, it is much more pleasant to cook food in the fresh air, in the company of friends and relatives.

A brick brazier can be made for year-round operation, with a smokehouse, barbecue, cauldron, pipe. Even a standard street barbecue looks great and does the job perfectly.

Brick barbecue – a massive stationary structure. In this case, the design may have different dimensions, design and additional components. Typically, a stationary stove consists of:

  • plinth;
  • foundation;
  • lower and upper side walls;
  • incandescent;
  • chimney.

The simplified version is not equipped with a pipe, but then it must be placed outdoors.

The shape of the oven is also different. In most cases, a rectangular or square brazier is built. A round hearth for frying looks more interesting, but its construction is quite laborious. In the gazebo, there is usually a corner barbecue, next to which you can equip a washbasin, a cutting table.

Where to install

Deciding on the location for the garden stove is very important, primarily for security purposes. That is why it is not recommended to install a barbecue in wooden arbors, near living vegetation.

The main recommendations for choosing a place for the product device:

  1. Away from wind and dust – we are talking about cooking, so hygiene is a priority. It is desirable that the smoke from the stove is not carried by the wind to the neighbors.
  2. The barbecue area must be level.
  3. Make sure that water and gas are located near the cooking area. This will greatly facilitate the process.
  4. To make the structure last longer, install it under a canopy.

Do not forget that there will be a foundation under the furnace, calculate the area with a small margin.

A simple option

Bricklaying is a simple and straightforward process. In order for the construction to be successful, you must first draw up a project. Having made a complex barbecue, you can simultaneously implement a grill, barbecue, smokehouse in it.

At the stage of drawing development, auxiliary components of the product are prescribed: a place for dishes, a cutting board, a washbasin. In practice, such devices are very helpful.

An important step is the choice of material. We recommend using refractory bricks. Even at high temperatures, it will not lose properties. Ceramic brick has a beautiful appearance, besides it is quite reliable.

In addition to the material, do not forget to prepare the tool. We will use a standard set: a shovel, a trowel, a level, buckets, a concrete mixer or a trough.

Foundation

The brick brazier has a solid weight. So the manufacture of the base is not a whim, but a necessity. The durability of a home-made structure depends on the foundation, so it must be reliable.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. You need to mark the area. It is enough to use pegs and twine.
  2. A pit is to be excavated on the marked area. Its optimal depth is 10-15 cm. Make sure that the pit is without drops.
  3. The bottom must be filled with slag.
  4. It is necessary to build a formwork around the perimeter.
  5. To increase reliability, it is better to lay a reinforcing mesh.
  6. Now it remains to fill the site with concrete. Inexpensive and good in properties solution brand M-250.

Do not forget that you can start further work on the foundation only after it has completely dried. The lower the ambient temperature, the longer the coating dries. On average, you need to wait about a week.

Masonry furnace

It is better to pour a screed onto the resulting concrete base, while simultaneously leveling the floor level. Now you can equip the waterproofing.

We recommend using solid ceramic or oven bricks for masonry. Note that the second option is more expensive. Masonry is carried out using a clay-sand mixture. To increase the strength characteristics of the solution, add a little cement to it. The one-brick method will do. To make the brazier look aesthetically pleasing, align the walls with a level. Remove excess solution, strictly follow the project. Try to keep everything symmetrical.

At this stage, you can fold the container for dishes, a place for cutting food, etc.

It will take more time to build a stove with a chimney. Construction becomes more complicated, but the brazier takes on the appearance of a full-fledged architectural structure. To avoid malfunctions and the negative consequences of overheating, lay the pipe out of heat-resistant bricks.

For more efficient functioning of the stove, cover the chimney with a canopy. Please use non-flammable materials. For additional protection, they can be impregnated with special means. If you do not want to heavily load the structure, make a metal smoke box.

The minimum height of the pipe should be 150 cm. If you plan to build a complex structure with arched elements, use a circle during construction – bricks are mounted on it with a gap of about a centimeter. The voids are filled with mortar. Then the circle is removed.

The pipe can be fixed to the support columns. Going up, it should gradually narrow.

Base

A summer barbecue with a pipe is being built on the foundation. This is logical, because the weight of the stove is even greater than that of a conventional brick barbecue. There are no cardinal features in the arrangement of the foundation. You need to work according to the standard scheme: clear the site, make a hole, fill in sand and gravel, lay reinforcement, pour mortar.

Ordering

Laying rows is carried out with an offset. For this we need halves of bricks. You can cut them using a grinder. The first 6 rows will form the brazier and cutting table on the right side. From the 7th row, laying is carried out only in the place where the brazier itself will be located.

So that from the point of view of geometry everything was without blots, pull the rope, align the rows along it. Use a spirit level to check symmetry. Pay attention to the verticality of the walls and corners. The ordering of a brick barbecue is quite simple, even users with minimal skills will not have any difficulties. After the masonry is finished, let the structure dry.

If there is a high probability of precipitation, but the brazier is not protected by a canopy, cover it with oilcloth.

When using a new stove for the first time, take your time: build a small fire and not for long.

Do you want to set up an outdoor cooking area? We recommend making a brick grill. Construction takes a little time, but in return you get a durable and convenient structure. To ensure that the workflow goes through with a minimum number of errors, make accurate calculations, think over the main components of the design.
