Brick barbecue in the gazebo

An integral part of summer holidays is cooking on an open fire. Most often, a portable metal barbecue is taken to nature, a fire is made and a barbecue is fried. However, in bad weather and with the onset of cold weather, it is uncomfortable to rest under the open sky. A gazebo will be the solution to the problem, but it will be inconvenient to use a metal barbecue. The main hindrance is the smoke from the fire. An erected brick brazier in the gazebo will help to equip a resting place with all amenities, the smoke from which will go far beyond the premises.

Why is a brick brazier better than metal

You can install a brazier in a built gazebo not only from bricks. If you have a welding machine, skills and material, the structure can be welded from metal. But will a steel brazier be better than a brick structure?

Metal barbecues are quite simple to manufacture even with a chimney. It is enough to weld the cut pieces of steel and the structure is ready. Let’s start looking for the disadvantages of such a brazier with its functionality. Firstly, the metal tends to burn out and deform from heating. The service life of a metal barbecue is small, and over time, its deformed body will begin to spoil the interior of the gazebo. Secondly, steel heats up quickly and gives off heat unevenly. The meat in different parts of the brazier begins to burn, and in some places, in general, raw.

An ideal option is brick gazebo ovens, where you can equip a barbecue, barbecue and other appliances for cooking. The brick does not have the ability to burn out and deform, it gradually gains heat, after which it evenly gives it to the prepared product. The device of a brick oven or barbecue is more complicated than a metal structure, but the service life is much longer. In terms of aesthetics, brickwork also wins. If it was not possible to get a facing brick, the stove can be trimmed with decorative stone.

On which brick structure will you choose

You can build a structure inside a brick gazebo with your own hands for cooking. Many immediately rush to search the Internet for a drawing, where they face another problem. It turns out that there are many varieties of brick barbecues. So, where do you stop? It should be noted right away that only a design with a chimney is suitable for the gazebo, and this is already a real stove. But what can be organized in it, now we will figure it out.

Brazier

The traditional solution for building a barbecue oven is to install a brick barbecue inside the gazebo. The device of such a stove consists of one brazier, above which a chimney rises. Under the brazier, they usually equip a niche – a woodcutter. Meat is cooked on the grill by stringing it on skewers. Usually such a stove is placed at the far wall of the gazebo.

To build a brazier out of bricks, you do not need a complex drawing. It is even allowed to weld a metal brazier in the form of a box, which is simply lined with bricks in the gazebo. If desired, the design of the brazier can be complicated. An additional niche is built between the brazier and the chimney. It must be tightly closed so that smoke does not get inside the gazebo. This niche makes an excellent smokehouse. Now, in addition to barbecue, there will still be smoked products on the table.

BBQ

Recently, barbecue has become fashionable. The principle of food preparation has remained unchanged: there are coals inside the brazier, and the product is fried above them. Only if, in the case of a barbecue, the meat is strung on a skewer, then in a barbecue, it lies on top of the grate. You can install a brick barbecue in the gazebo according to the same principle as the barbecue. The drawing and the construction device are the same, only protrusions are provided above the brazier for laying the grate. They can be made of bricks or pieces of reinforcement can be embedded in the masonry. The grate is made removable, then the barbecue is easy to rebuild on the grill.

Advice! Convenient to use are barbecue ovens with attached countertops and a sink for washing dishes.

Portable barbecues for gazebos, which can be installed anywhere, even in the center, are very popular. The only condition for using a mobile barbecue in the gazebo is to install a hood over it.

stove

Brick barbecue in the gazebo

The best option is considered to be a brick stove for a gazebo, where various devices are provided to help cook food. The drawing of a stove is complicated, and a person without experience cannot master the construction itself. Here you will need a stove.

The stove is equipped with a hob, a cauldron for cooking pilaf is installed, a niche for a smokehouse is built over the brazier. In the brazier itself, ledges are provided for the barbecue grill. The stove must be built with a capacious woodshed for storing logs.

Attention! All projects of the stove on the Internet are for informational purposes only. During construction, the master independently makes individual calculations and makes his own adjustments.

What else can be built of brick in the gazebo

A cauldron is considered a good cooking device in the gazebo. Under its installation, a mini-oven with a chimney is laid out of brick. A hole is cut out on the hob, where the cauldron is immersed. The photo shows how its lower part is immersed in the firebox.

The stove will be endowed with all the functions if a grill is also installed in it. That is, a special chamber is set up, inside which the fire roasts the meat from all sides. The photo shows a whole complex of multifunctional ovens.

Barbecue projects

For acquaintance we suggest to consider projects of two braziers. Each drawing displays dimensions, but for informational purposes only. The dimensions of the brick barbecues are individually calculated by an experienced stove-maker for a certain gazebo.

The first project in the photo is for a rectangular brazier, which can be installed inside the gazebo against the far wall.

The next photo shows a brick corner brazier. The principle of construction is the same, only the structure can be placed in the corner of the gazebo.

Arrangement of the foundation for a brick barbecue or stove

Brick barbecue in the gazebo

A brick brazier, and even more so a stove, is a very heavy structure that requires the arrangement of a reliable foundation. How to make a concrete base yourself? Yes, very simple. It is possible to pour a strip foundation along the perimeter of the future furnace, but in conditions of heaving soil this is not the best option. So that the base does not break, it will have to be buried below the freezing level of the soil.

The ideal option is concreting a monolithic slab. To do this, according to the dimensions of the brazier, they dig a recess up to 500 mm, cover the bottom with a layer of sand with crushed stone 200 mm thick and lay a reinforcing mesh.

Attention! The reinforcement is laid exactly on the bottom of the foundation, and not in the middle or in its lower part. Otherwise, the strength of the base is reduced, and under the weight of the brick barbecue, it will bend or crack.

Formwork is arranged around the pit. The sides must protrude at least 100 mm above ground level. The foundation is poured with concrete with crushed stone. Until the cement has completely hardened, no work is carried out on the base.

Construction of a stove

Now we will look at how to build a stove out of bricks in a gazebo. The instruction is provided for informational purposes only, and in the case of independent work, it is advisable to consult a specialist.

Preparatory work

So, the concrete foundation for the stove inside the gazebo has frozen, it’s time to start preparing for stone work. For laying out a brazier or a stove, you will need red and refractory bricks. The first one will go to the walls, and a firebox is laid out of refractory bricks. It should be noted right away that silicate and hollow bricks are not suitable for furnace work.

Attention! So that the brick does not pull water from the solution, it is soaked with water for a day, but not completely dipped, but simply sprayed abundantly.

From above, the concrete foundation is covered with a sheet of roofing material for waterproofing. The first row of bricks is laid out dry without mortar. It forms the outline of the ordering furnace. At this stage, the masonry is adjusted in such a way that, in the process of further construction, cutting of bricks is avoided.

To get reliable brickwork, you need to properly prepare the mortar. Sometimes the walls of the oven or barbecue are laid out on cement mortar, and the firebox itself on clay. You can do this, although many stove-makers are more inclined to use only clay mortar. There is such a thing as the fat content of clay. From here, the proportions of the solution are determined, and they do it individually. They can be 1:1 or 1:2. The fatter the clay, the more sand is added.

Attention! Clay for the preparation of the solution is soaked in two days to give it plasticity.

Refractory bricks inside the firebox are laid out on another solution of fire-resistant clay. Such a dry mixture can be bought at the store, and at home it will only be diluted with water. For the chimney, it is advisable to prepare another solution. Condensation will destroy the clay masonry, so the best option would be a solution of three parts sand and one part lime paste. For strength, the addition of one part of cement is allowed.

The layout of the first and subsequent rows starts from the corner. It is important to observe the level of brickwork so that the stove or barbecue does not warp. At all corners, a wire is embedded in the masonry of each row. It will give strength to the structure.

Masonry furnace

The photo shows an example of a masonry brick oven. In this project, on one side, a smokehouse with a barbecue is located on top, and a chimney above them. Under the firebox there is an ash pan. On the other side of the stove there is a niche for storing firewood. It is laid out from 6 rows of bricks. On the 8th row, a ledge is made and a steel sheet is laid, covering the firewood from above.

The bottom of the ash pan begins to equip from the second row of brickwork. Here, too, it is better to use a steel sheet. The height of the ash chamber is 3 bricks. The opening of the ash pan is closed with a cast-iron door. On the 6th row above the ash pan, grates are laid and the firebox is driven out of 4 rows. Inside it is laid out of refractory bricks.

If you count from the very bottom of the furnace, then the 11th row of brickwork is made with a ledge in the middle. A cast-iron hob is laid on top, which additionally forms the bottom of the smokehouse. Above are the rows of the smoking chamber itself, and a door is installed in its opening.

On the other side of the furnace, two rows of red and one row of refractory bricks are laid on a metal sheet. A brazier is formed in this area. Further laying of the furnace goes up to the 16th row, where they begin to form an arch. It ends on the 19th row, forming the upper part of the barbecue chamber.

Further, the masonry is driven out to 22 rows, where a steel sheet with windows for smoke is placed above the smokehouse. They will allow you to carry out cold and hot smoking. Starting from the 23rd row, make the top of the furnace. Further clack comes with a shift of the brick inward by one quarter. The top of the furnace consists of 10 rows, after which a smooth chimney is laid out.
