Brewer’s yeast for health: composition, benefits and harms, instructions

In past years, brewer’s yeast was viewed as an insignificant product that remains after brewing beer. To date, the situation has changed dramatically. People realized the value of yeast and began to actively use it as a dietary supplement.

Brewer’s yeast is not related to nutritional, baker’s or torula yeast. They are bitter in taste and also contain high amounts of chromium. For their production, a unicellular fungus Saccharomyces cerevisiae is used. Brewer’s yeast is used in brewing.

In addition to B vitamins and minerals, brewer’s yeast contains:

  • Probiotics.

  • Prebiotics: Mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS), beta-glucans. Beta-glucans have anti-inflammatory and immunostimulating properties.

  • Nucleotides: DNA and RNA (nucleic acids – 26,1%)

  • Nicotinamide riboside.

  • Ergosterol. This substance acts as an antiestrogen, so it can suppress breast cancer.

Of particular interest to scientists are such components as DNA and RNA nucleotides, beta-glucans and nicotinamide riboside. There is evidence that the nucleotides obtained by a person from food not only provide cells with energy potential, but also have a positive effect on mental abilities.

How is brewer’s yeast different from other types?

Brewer’s yeast should not be confused with its nutritional counterparts. When cooked, they break down into sugars, which are converted into alcohol and carbon dioxide. The end product in the form of beer is obtained by adding water, hops and barley to the yeast.

Brewer’s yeast is just as nutritious as food yeast, but is made from malted barley rather than sugar or sugar cane. Therefore, unlike baker’s yeast, it will not be able to rise the dough.

Benefits of brewer’s yeast

With daily inclusion in the diet, brewer’s yeast will help saturate the body with vitamins and minerals: iron, magnesium, potassium.

Brewer’s yeast is a product for the prevention of deafness, as it protects nerve fibers from damage by noise. They are useful for people who want to keep their natural hair color as long as possible, as they prevent the early appearance of gray hair.
