Breast lift: with or without an implant?
Breast lift, also called mastopexy or ptosis cure, is performed by a cosmetic surgeon in order to lift a sagging breast.
What is a breast lift?
After pregnancy, weight loss or age, your breasts can sag. A breast lift – or mastopexy – can be performed to correct breast ptosis, i.e. a sagging breast accompanied by sagging skin.
It is possible to perform a breast lift without going through the placement of breast implants or on the contrary to perform a mastopexy with implants in order to compensate for any loss of volume.
Breast lift without implant
To correct breast ptosis, the facelift, also called ptosis cure, can be performed without the installation of implants. The cosmetic surgery operation aims only to raise and tighten the breast without changing the cup size.
The excess skin is removed and the surgeon reshapes around the remaining volume. The breast is open at the level of the areola and under the breast. “The scar will take the shape of an upside down T”, explains Dr Benhamou, plastic and aesthetic surgeon in Paris.
Some patients, handicapped by the size of their breasts, take advantage of mastopexy to perform breast reduction.
What postoperative consequences?
The operation lasts on average two hours and requires one night of hospitalization. The postoperative effects are most often less restrictive than during the placement of implants. Indeed, the practitioner does not touch the muscles or the milk ducts. Healing is therefore faster but does not dispense with wearing a compression bra for a month, day and night.
How much does a breast lift without an implant cost?
Count between 4000 and 5000 €.
Breast lift with implant
To compensate for a loss of volume in the breast in addition to sagging, the breast lift can be accompanied by the placement of implants. A combined intervention which makes it possible to restore volume to breasts that are “empty” after significant weight loss. The size and shape of the prosthesis will be defined in agreement with the cosmetic surgeon during a consultation. The practitioner will be able to guide the patient towards the most harmonious choice for her figure.
What postoperative consequences?
The operation lasts on average between 2h and 2h30 and most of the time requires a night of hospitalization. The postoperative can be painful because the practitioner moves the pectoral muscles during the placement of prostheses. The patient will have to wear a support bra for a minimum of one month, day and night.

Breast lift combined with lipofilling
To tighten the breast, mastopexy can be combined with an injection of fat to restore volume to the breast. The fat is removed by liposuction and then placed in a centrifuge to be purified before being reinjected into the breast.
The amount of fat that can be obtained varies depending on the patient’s initial fat mass. This technique does not leave a scar but only allows a slight breast augmentation.
After the operation, you will need to wear a compression sleeve in the area where the fat is collected for four to six weeks.
Count between 4500 and 5000 € for a mastopexy combined with an injection of fat.
Is the breast lift covered by Health Insurance?
Social security coverage of mastopexy is not systematic. The excess skin removed during the breast lift must be recognized as physically or psychologically handicapping by the medical profession in order to benefit from treatment.
