At first, the disease progresses silently, with no obvious symptoms. Very often, neoplastic changes are detected by chance. Early diagnosis allows you to avoid complications and metastases, which in turn gives a chance for a complete recovery. Two basic tests are used to diagnose breast cancer: mammography and ultrasound.

ErSO can help fight breast cancer
Scientists from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in the United States have discovered a compound that offers hope for a new class of anti-cancer drugs in the future. These specificities could stop the development of an aggressive form of cancer and destroy its cells, while also fighting metastasis.
A compound called ErSO, which scientists from the United States have described, directly attacks cancer cells and all its metastases resulting from the spread of the disease. The research was carried out on mice and gave optimistic results. The compound contributed to almost complete tumor regression. Importantly, its use did not cause any side effects in mice. The results of the analyzes have been published in Science Translational Medicine. At the next stage, similar studies are planned, but already carried out on humans.

Estrogen receptor positive (ERα) breast cancer is distinguished by the fact that it develops due to estrogen. Therefore, modern therapies are aimed at the organic amount of this sex hormone, as a consequence the tumor would not be able to grow anymore. Unfortunately, the ERα variant has a tendency to mutate, making its treatment much more difficult. A compound called ErSO, which scientists in the US have described, is expected to help apply an alternative therapy to those present. It does not limit the amount of estrogen, but it directly destroys cancer cells.
Even if a few breast cancer cells survive, allowing the tumors to regrow in a few months, those that do grow back can be re-treated with ErSO, explains David Shapiro, professor of biochemistry at the University of Illinois and lead author of the study.
