Brachikoma: herbaceous plants for outdoor use
Brachikoma is a herbaceous plant, highly branched, abundantly covered with bright inflorescences up to 4 cm in diameter. Propagated by seeds and cuttings. Used for planting on flower beds, balconies, terraces. Looks good on its own and blends with other plants.
Brachycoma plant – main varieties
Flowers can be white, black, purple and various shades of blue. Leaves and stems are delicate, bright green. It blooms profusely and for a long time, starting from the 80th day after sowing until the first frost. Emits a subtle aroma.
The brachicoma has chamomile-like flowers
There are several varieties of herbaceous plant for open ground – brachycoma. But due to the fact that it is very thermophilic, only 2 of them have taken root on the territory of Russia:
- Iberis-leaved – a low plant, up to 40 cm. Bright chamomile-like flowers look good against the background of thick bright green leaves. This species includes several varieties, and breeding work continues.
- The multipart, or mountain, chamomile got its name from its ability to grow in rocky terrain. Differs in small leaves and inflorescences.
Both plant varieties are annuals. In the fall, seeds ripen and remain viable for up to three years.
The flower grows in the open field, but it is better to sow it in a greenhouse in early spring, and plant seedlings in a permanent place in the absence of the threat of frost. Then the plant will bloom longer. The landing site should be sunny, only light shading is allowed.
The plant needs proper care:
- Feed up to three times per summer. Flowers respond well to mineral fertilizers diluted with water. Dry ash poured around the bush will serve as top dressing and protect against some pests.
- Water in the evening, lightly and very gently. Excessive moisture can kill the plant.
- Pinching the tops regularly will allow new shoots to grow and the bush will grow.
- Conduct pest control regularly – snails and whiteflies like the delicate petals.
If you follow these simple rules, you can achieve a lush bloom.
Brachikoma serves as a decoration for any flower bed, goes well with marigolds, asters, petunias and other flowers. Feels great outdoors and in a pot. Suitable for balconies, house facades, various slopes. From spring to late autumn, it forms a bright floral carpet.
