The drug

The drug causes diarrhea, which is possible due to the active components that make up its composition. Macrogol blocks the absorption of water in the intestines and in the stomach. Therefore, the liquid accumulates in the lumen of the digestive tract and contributes to the speedy evacuation of its contents.

To prevent dehydration of the body against the background of the opened diarrhea, Endofalk contains electrolytes of salts. They regulate the water-salt balance, do not allow it to go beyond the norm.

Receiving Endofalk allows you to eliminate excess gas formation in the intestines, which is possible due to the content of polyethylene glycol in it.

Indications for use

Indications for taking the drug:

• Upcoming x-ray examination of the intestine.

• Endoscopic examination of the digestive system, this includes not only FGDS, but also colonoscopy.

• Upcoming surgery on the digestive tract.

Dosing and Administration

One package of the drug contains 6 sachets, which will be enough to prepare 3 liters of solution. For a complete cleansing of the intestines, an adult needs exactly this amount of the drug (3-4 liters).

To prepare a liter of solution, the following recommendations must be observed:

• In half a liter of warm water dissolve 2 packets of the drug.

• Water is added to the solution until its total volume is equal to one liter.

• The prepared composition can be stored for no more than 3 hours at room temperature and no longer than two days in the refrigerator.

• Drink a glass of solution every 10 minutes. For an hour you need to take at least a liter of the drug.

Directions:

• If a person is to have a colonoscopy, then the drug is taken 4 hours before it.

• You can also drink the solution the night before.

• Another option for taking the drug: the night before, take one part of the drug, and drink the rest of it in the morning.

2-3 hours before taking Endofalk, you need to refuse food. To minimize discomfort from the use of the drug, you need to drink it in small sips. When a person takes medicine in a hospital and for one reason or another cannot drink it on his own, the solution is administered using a nasogastric tube. Perform this procedure the night before the upcoming examination or surgery.

Side effects

Side effects that may develop in people taking Endofalk:

• On the part of the immune system, such disorders are observed: rhinorrhea, urticaria, dermatitis of allergic origin, anaphylactic shock.

• From the side of cardiac activity, arrhythmia, pulmonary edema and tachycardia may occur.

• Rarely, patients suffer from mild disorientation in space, as well as from seizures, which can be triggered by an electrolyte imbalance.

• Not very often, insomnia develops in patients, and general well-being also worsens.

• In the blood serum, the concentration of potassium, calcium and sodium may decrease.

Endofalk or Fortrans, which is better?

Both Endofalk and Fortrans are available in sachets containing a powder for preparing a solution. The main substance in them is polyethylene glycol and macrogol. This polymer is practically not absorbed by the intestinal walls, but has an excellent ability to retain water molecules, thereby preventing its absorption.

Fortrans and Endofalk act in a similar way. The difference between them comes down only to the fact that Endofalk contains macrogol 3350, and Fortrans contains macrogol 4000. These numbers reflect the molecular weight of polyethylene glycol, but they do not give practically any significant difference in terms of the effect they have.

Both drugs do not allow fluid in the intestine to be absorbed. This leads to liquefaction of feces and their accelerated evacuation.

So, the main difference between drugs is that they differ in the quantitative content of electrolytes and macrogol.

Comparative characteristics:

The composition of Fortrans does not contain any flavors and other flavoring additives, so the drug has a subtle smell and a sweetish-salty taste, which is given to it by potassium and sodium chlorides. Endofalk contains an orange flavor.

Endofalk has more contraindications for use than Fortrans. However, this is explained by the fact that a different number of clinical trials of drugs were performed, and they were also carried out in different countries that have different legislative acts.
