Bourbon Blantons: an overview of taste and brand

Bourbon Blantons is very easy to recognize by the original cap, which is decorated with a figurine of a jockey riding a horse.

Colonel Albert Blanton worked for 50 years to improve his skills in the production of bourbon at the Buffalo Trace Distillery. During this time, he managed to develop a unique “single barrel” technology, which led to the revival of the production of single-barrel Blentons bourbon. And it happened in 1984.

Features of Blanton’s production and types

This bourbon has deservedly entered the premium alcohol segment. After all, it is produced almost by hand.

The main feature of this drink is the lack of clear aging periods. The degree of readiness is determined by the master to taste. He personally samples each barrel, and after giving permission, Blantons is bottled.

Bottles do not mix alcohol from different barrels. This is done in order to avoid crossbreeding of different flavors. One barrel produces about 250 bottles of corn bourbon, which are assigned their own unique number.

Blanton’s Original, 46,5%

When this bourbon first went on sale, it was only available to high-profile individuals and noble families. Today, this opportunity is available to anyone who can pay about 500 US dollars for a bottle of bourbon.

Blanton’s Original is aged in American oak barrels for about 7-9 years. Its color is noble – amber with light shades of mahogany.

On the palate there are notes of caramel, citrus, burnt sugar and cloves. Soft aftertaste with woody-honey nuances.

The aroma has an interesting combination of mint, caramel, vanilla, candied fruits, oak and coconut.

Experts recommend pouring Blanton’s Original into a glass and letting it stand for a while, then the taste and aroma will be revealed in full.

Blanton’s Special Reserve, 40%

If you’re just getting started with single-barrel bourbon, this is the perfect option. Since its strength is much lower compared to other drinks of this brand.

Special Reserve has a beautiful amber-gold color. The sweetish taste of bourbon is complemented by notes of vanilla, citrus, honey and light shades of cinnamon apple and spices.

The aroma captures floral, vanilla, citrus nuances, which are complemented by notes of raisins and spices.

This drink is recommended to drink in its pure form with an ice cube or as part of premium cocktails.

Blanton’s Straight From The Barrel, 66%

This whiskey is aged in new charred white American oak barrels for at least 8-10 years. Straight From The Barrel has a barrel strength that is not diluted with water, which makes the drink richer and more interesting.  

The glossy dark amber color of the bourbon complements the rich taste, which is set off by notes of oak, butter, honey, oak and spices. Peach, citrus and soft chocolate shades are captured in the aftertaste.

There are spicy nuances in the aroma, which are perfectly combined with tobacco, honey, woody-vanilla hues and a persistent trail of creamy fudge.

Blanton’s Straight From The Barrel is ideal neat as a digestif in tandem with a good cigar.

Blanton’s Gold Edition, 51,5%

This bourbon is produced only in limited quantities, not on an industrial scale.

Blanton’s Gold Edition has a dark amber color. Its taste is rich and concentrated with rich hints of black pepper, apricot and oak. The long aftertaste is marked by apple-nut shades and light creamy nuances.

The bouquet of aromas is very diverse with a pronounced smell of honey, vanilla, dried fruits, oak, chocolate and citrus fruits,

To enjoy this bourbon in full, it is recommended to drink it exclusively in its pure form as a digestif.
