Botox: reviews

Is botox as bad as they say? The editorial staff of Woman’s Day and the trichologist, Ph.D., dermatocosmetologist of the European Center for Aesthetic Medicine Maria Gordievskaya decided to sort out the most common misconceptions associated with this popular remedy for mimic wrinkles.

Botox is addictive like a strong drug

Botox is not addictive. Botox does not have the same addictive effect that many drugs can cause: a few months after the injection, it is completely eliminated from the body.

After the procedure, we get a good aesthetic effect and smoothed wrinkles. After the action of the drug ends, facial expressions return to the state they were before the procedure.

In the case of botulinum toxin, we can talk about psychological addiction to the effect of the procedure.

After the introduction of Botox, the facial muscles lose their natural strength.

Botulinum toxin blocks receptors that transmit impulses from the nerve fiber to the muscle, therefore, after the injection of the drug, the muscle relaxes.

Since the blood supply and nutrition to the muscle are preserved, the muscle regains its strength after the elimination of the drug.

A big smile is the enemy of botox

No, just after the procedure, it is recommended to actively use facial expressions for 30 minutes or an hour: to frown, smile – this will help the drug to be evenly distributed.

Botox can only be used after 45 years

Botox can be used even at the age of 20, if necessary. There must be indications for any aesthetic procedure. In particular, mimic wrinkles will be an indication for the use of botulinum toxin injections.

And if at a younger age, facial expressions are pronounced, then the procedure can be carried out at a younger age for prevention. In general, botulinum toxin in aesthetics is approved for use from the age of 18.

Botulinum toxin injection procedure can only be afforded by very rich people

This is not to say that only very rich people can afford to carry out the procedure. On average, in clinics in Moscow, the price for injections varies from 300 to 450 rubles per unit. On average, the procedure takes 20-30 units.

Botulinum toxin is used in the treatment of local hyperhidrosis (increased sweating)

After a single injection of Botox, a quick effect occurs on days 2-3, which lasts an average of 6-8 months, which is associated with a slow reinnervation of the sweat glands.

Unlike, for example, surgical methods of treatment, after the injection of Botox, compensatory hyperhidrosis never occurs in other areas of the body. Therefore, in case of local hyperhidrosis, the use of botulinum toxin gives a predictable long-term effect.

Frequent Botox injections can cause infertility

This is the first time I’ve ever heard of this. Botulinum toxin does not have a systemic effect on the body, it works locally at the injection site. Of course, it is not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation, like other injection procedures. This is because no one has ever tested Botox for these conditions.

A layman can easily determine whether a person is using Botox or not, this can be seen immediately

Hardly. Today, Botox injections are carried out in such a way that facial expressions are preserved, but at the same time wrinkles are smoothed out.

If you exceed the dose of one procedure, you can permanently remain with atrophied muscles.

If you exceed the dose of the toxin, you can get undesirable side effects, but there will be no muscle atrophy: the muscle nutrition and blood supply are preserved, and after the drug is removed, it restores its activity.

Botox is an extremely painful procedure that not everyone can tolerate

The painfulness of the procedure is all individual. It is not more painful than any other injection procedure. Moreover, in most cases Botox injections are done without any anesthesia.

But if the pain threshold is increased, then you can apply an anesthetic cream for 20 minutes before the procedure, this will reduce all the unpleasant sensations from the procedure.
