Bosch Refrigerator: Errors, Causes, Solutions

Bosch household appliances are popular among users, but not a single appliance is immune from breakage. Therefore, if an error code is displayed on the Bosch refrigerator, you need to decrypt it. Its value will point you to the element that failed. So you can diagnose and repair the part.

Bosch Refrigerator Error Codes

You habitually operate the refrigerator, and suddenly you notice symbols on the display. On some models, the indicators may flash or an alarm may sound. Before you start looking for a breakdown, rule out a system failure. For this:

  • Unplug the refrigerator.
  • Wait 10-15 minutes.
  • Run it again.

Look at the screen. If the code disappeared, then the reason was a system failure. If not, then look for the decoding in the instructions or our table.

Malfunction codeWhich meansHow to fix the problem yourself
E1/r1The temperature sensor in the refrigerator compartment is out of order.Check the sensor, its contacts and wiring. Tighten the connections, replace the cable or part.
E2The evaporator sensor in the refrigerator compartment is defective. In this case, the temperature in the chamber may rise, and frost and snow may form on the walls. Run diagnostics and install a new sensor.
E3/F1The temperature sensor in the freezer does not signal. The sensor informs the control board about the temperature in the chamber, after which the compressor is turned off. Therefore, in the event of a breakdown, it is urgent to replace the element.
E4Error E4 reports that the condenser sensor in the freezer is broken.Inspection of connections and performance check. Repair.
RTThe electronic module is not working properly. One of its elements is defective. We need diagnostics of the module, dialing parts with a multimeter. Visual inspection will help determine the location of burnouts. It is better to entrust the repair to a specialist.
d1The sensor on the edge has failed.Control module testing and sensor replacement.
DrThe door open sensor has been triggered. Possible reasons are:
  • The cell door is not closed tightly.
  • The hinges of the door have sagged, and it does not fit well to the body.
  • Worn or dirty rubber seal.
What you can do:
  • Close the door tighter.
  • Tighten the hinge fasteners.
  • Clean or change sealing rubber.
dFThe freezer door open/close switch does not work.

Open and close the door again. Check switch connections, install new part.

With prolonged use, the key sinks or sticks in the socket. Therefore, the module cannot determine whether the door is open or not.

EFFlow sensor or solenoid valve not functioning.Carry out troubleshooting and repair.
EtThe horizontal switch does not work. The switch needs to be replaced.
ECThe on/off button is stuck.Examine the key. If it is sunk or stuck, install a new element.
ESThe ice/water switch lever does not work.Diagnostics of contacts, wiring and the lever itself.
EaThe freezer motor is not working. You need to check the motor for performance. In the absence of signs of “life”, a replacement is carried out.
EgThe inlet valve does not work. It’s probably a valve that lets water into the icemaker. If the latter is provided in your model, then inspect the valve.

Signs that portend a breakdown or indicate a malfunction in Bosch refrigeration equipment:

  • The compressor is constantly running, without a break for rest. The temperature in the compartment does not reach the norm, ice and snow can form on the walls. Check the rubber seal, the position of the thermostat. The temperature may have been set too low.

Remember, you do not need to set the relay to maximum, even if the room is hot. If the device is properly selected, it will cope with the load. See if the “Super Freeze” mode is turned on. In mechanical models, it is turned off manually: you may have forgotten to turn it off.

  • The compressor does not start, while the light in the compartment is on, which indicates the presence of voltage in the network. Additionally, clicks may be heard. This means that the start relay is trying to start the motor. It can turn on, but immediately turns off. Conclusion: Compressor wear. Urgent replacement.
  • During the operation of the unit, noise is heard, although this was not the case before. If extraneous sounds are heard during the operation of the refrigerator, the reason may be the wear of the motor. Also, its fasteners could loosen, so you need to tighten them. In models with No Frost, the fan may make noise if the blades are covered with ice. Then defrosting is required for at least 10 hours.
  • Snow is accumulating on the walls of the department. There can be many reasons: the seal is torn, the thermostat is broken, there are problems with the evaporator or its parts. A complete diagnosis is required.
  • The temperature in the chamber is optimal, but the compressor continues to work. Perhaps the thermal switch has broken, there has been a refrigerant leak, or the capillary tube is clogged. The most difficult thing is the breakdown of the electronic module.

Have you noticed signs of a problem in your Bosch refrigerator? Are you unable to do the repairs yourself? Then contact the service center. After all, minor repairs will cost less than buying new equipment.
