Why does the code appear?
Most often, the E 22 icon is displayed before the end of the cycle. The machine was washed, but before draining the water, the equipment freezes and gives a malfunction.
Less commonly, an error code is shown at the beginning or middle of a program. The user decides that this is a system failure, so he tries to restart the program. Once this might work:
- unplug the PMM plug from the socket;
- wait 10-15 minutes;
- restart the technique.
But if the problem really exists and some part in the dishwasher is damaged, then it will not be possible to reset the code – it will appear again.
We do not recommend restarting the Bosch dishwasher several times in a row. This may damage the electronic board. Noticed an error? Then proceed to its decryption and elimination.

What does the fault code mean
Error code E 22 means that there is water in the pan, there are blockages in the drain system. Here’s what could have caused the crash:
- Drain filter. Pieces of food from dishes, small debris, glass fragments – everything is washed off and retained by the filter mesh. It is clear that the waste water cannot go down the drain, so the system gives an error.
- Drain hose. If you notice that the E22 code alternates with E24, and after checking it turned out that the filter is clean, then you should inspect the hose. How to do this – we will describe below.
- Sprayer problems. It happens that food gets into the sleeve between the impeller and the pump. Sprinkler operation is blocked.
If the error codes alternate with each other, then the pump impeller does not rotate. The reason may be a thread or pieces of food that have wrapped around the base and blocked the work.
How to fix the problem
The first thing to do is inspect the dishwasher. Open the door, remove all dish baskets from the hopper. Take out the filter, which is located at the bottom of the hopper. Clean it of dirt, rinse the mesh under the pressure of water. You can use a brush for cleaning.
Check the location of the drain hose. If it is bent or crushed somewhere, then it is not surprising that the water does not leave and an error appears. See if the impeller rotates normally. If not, then remove it from its place and clean the bushing of debris.
All manipulations did not bring results? Is the error code still showing on the display? Then you need to look deeper. You will have to disassemble the dishwasher a little.
What do we have to do:
- Disconnect the machine from the network.
- Disconnect all communications.
- Place an old blanket and a rag to turn the PMM on its back.
- Unscrew the screws around the perimeter of the bottom cover.
- Loosen the leak sensor screw.
- Remove and set the cover aside.
- You will have access to the internal parts of the equipment.
- Disconnect the end of the drain hose from the pump. To do this, use pliers.
- Inspect the hose for blockages, flush under pressure from a faucet. If the hose is damaged or worn, install a new element.
Be careful when choosing replacement parts. Choose only accessories for your make and model of Bosch PMM, otherwise the purchased part may not be suitable.
Now you need to remove the drain pump, check its impeller:
Carry out the installation in reverse order. After completing the work, error E 22 should disappear. Be careful when loading the dishwasher, clean the dishes well from food debris to avoid dirt and blockages.
