Borderline is a term that refers to an emotionally unstable personality. This type was already described at the end of the XNUMXth century. Borderline personality disorder is known as borderline personality disorder (BPD). The starting point is always a correct diagnosis.

The Borderline diagnostic test was created, among others, by John Gunderson. However, this test is in English. Unfortunately, only translations are available on the web, which should not be treated as a diagnostic tool. How to test on Borderline?

Borderline test – tests available

The concept of testing at Borderline is controversial. There are still no well-developed models and classification of this type of personality.

The most reliable and refined test so far is the Borderline test created by John Gunderson called the Diagnostic Interview for Borderline Patients and the Perry Borderline Personality Scale.

In diagnosed patients, the Borderline Symptom Test can be used. Among them we can find, for example, the Scale of the Self-description of the Relationship with the Object, the Scale Interview for People from the Borderland or the Questionnaire of the Borderland Team.

Borderline test – ICD-10 classification

Borderline disorders were first described in the late 10s. According to the ICD-XNUMX classification, an emotionally unstable personality should be distinguished, which consists of two personality subtypes, i.e. impulsive and borderline.

A feature of the impulsive type is a high tendency to fall into conflicts and quarrels, however, in order to make a diagnosis, at least two of the following features should be stated:

  1. impulsive, unexpected behavior, without thinking about the consequences;
  2. mood swings;
  3. lack of consistency in action if you do not see quick effects;
  4. uncontrolled outbursts of anger and violence.

In order to diagnose borderline type, i.e. the emotionally unstable personality type, the patient needs to be diagnosed with at least three characteristics of the borderline subtype. Among them are the following personality traits:

  1. shaky image of oneself, one’s goals and preferences, including sexual preferences;
  2. a tendency to enter into unstable relationships with people, which may cause breakdowns and emotional crises;
  3. making great efforts not to be abandoned;
  4. threats or acts of self-harm.

An important characteristic of people with Borderline is the constant feeling of emptiness.

Borderline test – DMS-IV classification

According to this classification, the borderline personality type was defined as a personality whose dominant trait is instability in relationships with people, in assessing oneself and one’s emotions. The authors also add a visible tendency to explosiveness. Diagnosis is possible when a patient has at least five of the following features:

  1. frantic efforts not to be actually or imagined abandoned;
  2. unstable and at the same time intense relationships with people, which are associated with huge fluctuations from idealization to devaluation;
  3. identity disorders, which consist of disturbances in self-image or self-esteem;
  4. impulsivity, visible in at least two areas, which may pose a threat to the patient (areas include: sex life, reckless driving, spending money, binge eating);
  5. recurrent behavior, suicide attempts or threats, or self-harm;
  6. emotional instability, caused by mood swings;
  7. chronic feeling of emptiness;
  8. attacks and outbursts of anger that are uncontrolled and inadequate to the situation;
  9. fleeting, stress-related paranoid thoughts and a symptom of personality decay.
