Borage herb
Borage cucumber grass, or simply borage, is a useful annual that can be grown on your site. With a minimum of maintenance, this plant will be an excellent source of vitamins. But to get a good harvest of tasty and healthy grass, you need to pay some attention to the culture.
Planting borage cucumber herb
This plant does not require special conditions, and it feels great both in the shade and in the sun. Moreover, it can be sown in any type of soil. But it is worth remembering that borage grows very quickly and can crowd out other crops. Therefore, it is recommended to enclose the plant bed.
Experienced gardeners advise planting cucumber grass near potatoes. It is noticed that the culture significantly reduces the activity of the Colorado potato beetle. And thanks to this neighborhood, you can save up to 95% of the root crop harvest.
Sowing can be started in early April. But if the frost is still holding and the ground has not warmed up enough, then it is advisable to postpone the planting a little. It is not necessary to carry out any stratification of seeds, and you can immediately lay them in the ground. For this, grooves with a depth of 3 cm are dug out. The seeds are planted one at a time every 10 cm. A distance of 25 cm should be kept between the rows. As a rule, the first shoots appear after a week.
Caring for borage will not cause much trouble. In principle, you can let it grow on its own, but it is unlikely that in this case it will be possible to collect a rich harvest. Therefore, you should pay some attention to it. Basic Rules:
- As soon as the seedlings grow a little, they should be thinned out. Try to keep at least 25 cm between each bush.If you are growing grass for flowers and seeds, then a distance of 75 cm should be left between each seedling.
- During extremely dry or hot weather, provide the crop with abundant watering.
- At the beginning of the growing season, it is advisable to feed the plants with nitrogen-containing fertilizers. For these purposes, you can also use a solution of chicken manure.
Only young leaves can be added to food, because the old ones become too hard and bristly. Therefore, it is recommended to harvest in the 2-3rd week of the crop life. If you want a delicious borage to be on your table throughout the season, then you should sow it every 15-20 days.
Anyone can grow delicious borage cucumber herb in their garden. This plant does not require special attention to itself, so a novice gardener will also cope with the task.
