Boostrix is ​​a booster vaccination against tetanus, whooping cough and diphtheria, which is given to people over 4 years of age. However, there are a number of restrictions on the vaccine.

Boostrix – action

The main task Boostrix vaccines is the production of antibodies that will protect the body against tetanus, whooping cough (whooping cough) and diphtheria. It can be given to children over 4 years of age, adolescents and adults. The vaccine contains diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid and pertussis vaccine. One pre-filled syringe with a needle costs about PLN 90.

Boostrix – dosage

The Boostrix vaccine is administered to the patient once intramuscularly, most often in the deltoid region. Your doctor may recommend the injection for people who suspect a tetanus infection (for example, if you hurt yourself deeply). Booster is usually given to patients 1-6 months after the first injection.

Boostrix – side effects

Common side effects that occur in children under 10 are:

  1. pain or redness at the injection site;
  2. irritability;
  3. somnolence;
  4. loss of appetite;
  5. Headache;
  6. high voltage fuse.

Less frequent is attention deficit, rash, pain or inflammation of the upper respiratory tract. In turn, the most common side effects after vaccination in children over 10 years of age, adolescents and adults include:

  1. pain or redness at the injection site;
  2. tiredness;
  3. bad mood;
  4. fever;
  5. pain in muscles and joints;
  6. swollen lymph nodes.

Boostrix – contraindications

The main contraindication to the correct vaccination is hypersensitivity to any of the constituent substances. In addition, people who had an adverse reaction after receiving the first vaccine should also not have it. Especially if they have diagnosed encephalopathy. Contraindication to taking the vaccine is also thrombocytopenia, as well as neurological diseases. In the event of a high fever, the administration of the Boostrix vaccine should be postponed. In turn, a mild infection is not a contraindication to its administration.

Boostrix – can it be given during pregnancy and lactation?

Boostrix can be given to a woman who is in the third trimester of pregnancy, but she should be under close medical supervision. The vaccine has no harmful effects on the fetus. In the case of a nursing woman, the doctor must consider whether the benefits of admission will outweigh the possible risks. However, studies have not shown that the toxoids and inactivated antigens contained in the vaccine could harm the life of the child.

Boostrix – interactions with other drugs

Boostrix can be given together with the human papilloma vaccine. During the tests, no contraindications were found to vaccinate the patient with both Boostrix and other vaccines, as well as immunoglobulins. It is enough to pierce other places on the body. Only patients taking immunosuppressants may develop an abnormal immune response.
