When choosing a gas boiler, buyers pay attention to the security system, the quality of the components, the brand and reliability of the manufacturer. But during operation, different situations happen: the boiler boils, stops and blocks the work. How to deal with such a problem yourself? Our publication will help you find and eliminate the causes of equipment failure. The main ones are blockages, scale and improper installation.
Why does a gas boiler boil
During normal operation of the equipment, the coolant in the circuit is heated to a predetermined temperature. After that, naturally or forcibly due to the pump, it is carried through the heating system. This heats up the radiators in the room. Then the liquid moves along the return circuit and returns to the boiler.
In case of overheating of the coolant, thermal sensors are triggered. As a result, the operation of the device is blocked. What to do if the boiler boils? To restore the heating, it is necessary to find the cause of the breakdown. Sometimes the self-diagnosis system displays an error code:
- E01 for “Navien”;
- E02 for Baxi;
- A03 for Koreastar;
- 01 for Ariston;
- F20 for “Proterm”;
- 16 for Rinnai, etc.
But if this did not happen, you can identify the problem by external signs.
What causes overheating:
- Clogged filters;
- accumulation of air;
- Blockage of the heat exchanger with scale;
- Problems with the circulation pump;
- Failure to comply with the regulations for the room where the equipment is installed.
How to restore the boiler
If the equipment overheats, do not delay the repair. There are times when a gas boiler explodes, so fix the problem as soon as you notice it.
Blockage and air in the system
If the water stagnates and does not circulate in the circuit, this leads to boiling. You can hear the liquid inside gurgling. Turn off the device, wait for the coolant to cool. Often, the filters on both sides are blocked by valves, so you do not have to drain all the water from the system. Close the taps, remove and rinse the filters.
If the strainer is heavily clogged, dip it in a solution of citric acid. Additionally, you can clean the part with a soft brush.
Worn out filters that cannot be cleaned should be replaced.
The air lock slows down the movement of the fluid or stops it altogether. How to deal with it:
- Open Mayevsky’s taps – they are on every radiator. Pre-substitute containers under them;
- You will hear air hissing out of the circuit. Then water may flow. Don’t turn off the taps right away. Wait until the liquid has drained and all the air has been vented;
- Repeat the procedure until the air lock is completely eliminated.
Scale deposits
Salts of magnesium and potassium are deposited on the parts of the boiler when heated above 55 degrees. Most of all, scale settles in the heat exchanger, because the liquid circulates and heats up in it. As a result, the passages in the tubes narrow, the pressure decreases, and water boils in the node. This leads to overheating and damage to the heat exchanger.
To clean the assembly, dismantle it. The most effective way is to connect a pump to the assembly and pump the reagent. After that, the radiator is washed with running water, dried and installed in place.
At home, the radiator is placed in a metal container with warm water. A solution of citric acid is poured into the coil. The container is placed on the stove, where it warms up for half an hour.
To prevent the formation of scale, install magnetic filters. It is enough to change their cassettes once a month, but they soften the water well.
Pump problems
When turning on the boiler after a long period of inactivity, check the pump. Its parts could stick, and the holes could become clogged. Clean and replace defective parts.
Installation issues
When installing the boiler in a room with high humidity, the risk of corrosion increases. This leads to a violation of the tightness of the system, leakage of coolant and gas. Therefore, before choosing a place for equipment, read the requirements for it.
Be careful with gas equipment. Once a year, carry out breakdown prevention and technical inspection.
