What we fear and how much we fear depends on many factors. It depends on the characteristics of our body, on the habits of our spiritual life, on the qualities of our mind and on the strength of our spirit. It can be said in another way: in our fears there is something that determines our body, there is the influence of culture, and there is a personal position of each of us.

The level of body fears depends primarily on the level of female hormones. That is why girls are more prone to fear from birth, the tendency to be afraid changes with hormonal treatment and usually changes with age, with a change in the ratio of male and female hormones in the body. In this regard, there is reason to talk about bodily fearlessness. Adminal Nelson, both in his own memoirs and in the memoirs of his contemporaries, was in principle devoid of a sense of fear. Fears are not only the body, but the body and its state are the most important space of the life of fears. The feeling of fear, if it is not invented, is primarily the body. Fear lives in the body. This is body tension, these are bodily clamps, this is a bodily stupor or a vegetative storm … If a person’s body rattles, his eyes swim, his voice is uncertain and quiet, fears stick to such a body from all sides. A person who has slept well, collected and physically strong is much less subject to fears. Sports, physical activity, control of one’s physical condition are good prevention of fears.

It is important to understand that the bodily reactions of fear and the bodily sensation of fear still do not tell us anything about our behavior.

A terrible situation as a reality, a feeling of fear and a person’s behavior in this situation are all different things. It is possible to react reasonably, actively, without fear to the terrible. At the same time, you can be afraid of what is not scary at all. You can be cowardly without experiencing a strong sense of fear, and you can act boldly against the background of the strongest inner fear. There are brave people with a cowardly body, and there are cowardly people who retreat in the face of danger even when the body is fully capable of fighting.

Body work to overcome fear is largely based on the fact that by removing the bodily manifestations of fear, we remove the feeling of fear.

Fear first strikes our body, hampering gestures, giving us a ridiculous posture, holding our breath. So let’s start with our body. Free him from the signs of fear! Breath control, physical shaking, confident gestures that turn you on, strong supportive phrases, in general, a corset of confidence are our helpers.

Fear is recorded in the clamps, in the pattern of muscle tension. By exercising relaxation, alternating tension and relaxation, we can reduce, if not completely eliminate unnecessary fear. Autogenic training, auto-training — in this case, a classic of the genre. Anyone interested — check it out! By re-experiencing a difficult (terrible) situation against a bodily background that erases negative experience, we destroy the connection between the image of the situation that triggers fear and our internal state. This effective and popular technique is called desensitization. Auto-training and desensitization are things that every practical psychologist should be familiar with.

General calming procedures, primarily breath control, help to reduce fear and anxiety. It is useful to keep oneself busy, control thinking, use auto-training.
