History of the Blue Hawaii Cocktail

In 1957, a sales representative of the Dutch alcohol house Bols signed a contract with the famous Hawaiian bartender Harry Yee, who worked at the prestigious Hawaii Hilton Hotel.

The contract obligated Harry to come up with a cocktail that would contain Blue Curacao liqueur, produced by the Dutch. It is for this reason that in the same year there was a cocktail that was destined to become the main hallmark of the Hawaiian Islands.

There is also a version according to which the Blue Hawaii cocktail was part of the advertising campaign of the eponymous film starring Elvis Presley.

The film was released in 1961 and also contributed a lot to the popularity of this resort, but it is known for certain that the creation of a cocktail has nothing to do with the film.

It is also interesting that the soundtrack of the film is a song called “Blue Hawaii”, written back in 1937.

Although the cocktail is sometimes referred to as a “relative” of the Blue Hawaiian cocktail, one cannot be considered a descendant of the other: the Blue Hawaiian contains vodka, which makes it taste fundamentally different.
