Blooming clematis: varieties

Among the large-flowered clematis, there are terry ones. In spring, double or semi-double flowers bloom on them. They can even form on last year’s shoots.

Large-flowered vines are classified into several groups and varieties. All of them are distinguished by colors of large sizes. Many varieties are frost resistant and can be grown in all climates.

Blooming clematis are painted in rich shades

In the conditions of southern and central Russia, some groups are especially popular. In garden plots, you can most often find varieties of flowering clematis:

  • “Viticella” – the length of the lianas can reach 2-3 m. Large flowers are 10-15 cm in diameter. They are painted in shades of pink, lilac and purple. Their shape is close to flat and resembles a disk. Liana is frost-resistant and can bloom until the beginning of winter.
  • Whole-leaved clematis is a shrub. The length of its shoots is about 150 cm. The flowers are bell-shaped. They can be painted in white, cyan, blue, violet and magenta tones. Flowering begins in summer and lasts until mid-autumn.
  • “Zhakmana” – the group has a powerful and strong root system. The length of the vines is 4 m, and the flowers grow up to 17 cm in diameter. This type of plant blooms most magnificently and abundantly. Its peduncles are purple, blue, lilac and red. Blossom in the middle of summer. Liana can bloom several times in one season.
  • “Lanuginoza” – flowers of this group are distinguished by a bright contrasting stripe located in the central part. The shade of the flowers is light. It ranges from white to pale blue. The diameter of the flower can be up to 20 cm. Flowering begins in July on last year’s shoots.

Blooming clematis are resistant to weather changes. To prepare for winter, they must be cut and covered. Only fungi can pose a threat to them.

Lianas, forming double flower stalks, bloom profusely on last year’s shoots. In caring for them, the most important thing is the right shelter for the winter. If last year’s shoots die, the plant will lose most of its flowers. There are 2 groups of terry clematis:

  • “Patens” – large flowers are painted in all shades of blue. They form in late spring and persist until autumn.
  • “Florida” – disc-shaped flowers have a light blue or lilac shade. Flowering continues throughout the summer.

Terry varieties should be grown on a plastic net. This will prevent damage to the shoots when covered for the winter.

Liana is picky about leaving. Its large flowers will decorate the garden and fill it with aroma.
