Calla flowers are colored and white. Garden plant varieties are suitable for growing in home gardens. The root system is powerful and developed. It is located superficially. During the growing season, it consumes large amounts of nutrients. With their lack, the flower becomes inconspicuous. Sometimes flowering can stop completely.
Blooming calla lilies should start forming buds 2 years after planting. Sometimes flowering does not start. This happens for a number of reasons:
- Lack of sun – the plant needs diffused lighting and a long day of light. It does not bloom in the shade, and in the open sun the delicate leaves get burned.
- Unsuitable planting site – it is recommended to grow the flower in a lowland. He is not afraid of closely located groundwater.
- Tight planting – the distance between the planting holes should be between 30 and 40 cm.
- Surface planting – the tuber must be deepened into the hole by 10-20 cm. The depth depends on the size of the tuber.
- The high nitrogen content in the soil provokes an oversaturation of the root system and slower plant development.
- High soil acidity – neutral soils are suitable for growing a flower. To reduce acidity, you can regularly treat the soil with an aqueous vinegar solution.
Improper care can also be the reason for the lack of flowering. Callas need moderate watering and regular loosening of the soil. During the growing season, top dressing is required. Better to use mineral fertilizers.
The plant begins to bloom at the end of May and continues until the autumn cooling. In order for it to please with its decorative properties, it is necessary to prepare for the flowering period in advance:
- Dormant period – to ensure rest, the flower can be dug up or transplanted into a pot. It is important to stop fertilizing and place the calla in a cool place.
- Processing of planting material – before planting, the tubers are soaked in a weak solution of manganese. Damage and rotten areas of the surface are cleaned.
- Irrigation – during a drought period, the flower needs additional moisture.
Dried buds are pruned during flowering. This stimulates growth.
Calla lilies bloom vividly in optimal conditions. For this, it is necessary to properly prepare the planting material.
