Sometimes the sugar in pregnant women rises, even if they have never suffered from this problem before. This is due to major changes in the body. If an increase in sugar is not detected in time, serious problems may appear for both the mother and the baby.

The norm of blood sugar in pregnant women

In a healthy woman during pregnancy, sugar should be in the range of 3,3-6,6 mmol / l. Tests to determine this indicator are mandatory throughout pregnancy. Directions for them are prescribed by the doctor who leads the pregnancy. These analyzes cannot be ignored!

Sugar in pregnant women can increase with little or no symptoms.

At 28 weeks of gestation, you should take a special hourly glucose test. It differs from the usual test, which is taken on an empty stomach. The hour test is done several times. The first time – on an empty stomach. After that, the woman drinks 100 ml of glucose solution. Blood is taken again 1, 2 and 3 hours after this drink.

Indicators should be below the indicated numbers:

  • after 1 hour – 10,5 mmol / l;
  • after 2 hours – 9,2 mmol / l;
  • after 3 hours – 8 mmol / l.

If the numbers are the same as in this list or even higher, then the pregnant woman has certain problems. These numbers are given for review, it is not necessary to memorize them, since a specialist deals with the interpretation of the analyzes.

High blood sugar in pregnant women: symptoms

Detecting the onset of an increase in blood sugar is difficult. It is accompanied by quite imperceptible symptoms:

  • increased appetite;
  • strong thirst;
  • frequent urge to urinate;
  • weakness;
  • increase in pressure.

These symptoms are found in almost every pregnant woman, so over time she simply stops noticing them. That is why it is so important to have all the tests prescribed by your doctor regularly. Women who are at risk should be especially careful. This includes women with obesity, those with polycystic ovary syndrome, those who have suffered from high sugar in a previous pregnancy, and those whose close relatives have diabetes.

But the least at risk of diabetes during pregnancy are girls under 25 years of age with normal weight, whose pregnancy proceeds without complications.

Regular visits to the doctor who leads the pregnancy and a healthy lifestyle are what can protect a woman from diabetes during pregnancy. Even if the sugar level rises, the doctor will take all the necessary measures to ensure that it does not cause serious consequences.
