Blogs: feelings online

Worried that your teen is being too explicit on his blog? Psychologists are sure that keeping an (online) diary helps children cope with feelings.

Internet diaries of teenagers often disturb parents: children openly and often rudely write about intimate things, desperately complain about life and adults … However, psychologists from the University of Haifa (Israel) came to the conclusion that teens suffering from self-doubt should only blog to the benefit. “Teens spend a lot of time on the Internet,” says study leader Meyran Boniel-Nissim. “And online diaries give them the opportunity to freely express their feelings and feel the support of their peers.” Moreover, a blog, where you can receive comments from readers, turned out to be even more useful for self-esteem than a regular personal diary – as the authors explain, the chance to get feedback and make new friends is no less important than just the opportunity to pour out your feelings.
