The expectant mother notices changes in digestion literally in the first month. The feeling of constant bloating in the intestines is added to the heartburn and nausea. Food stays in the gastrointestinal tract longer than usual, causing unpleasant bloating, belching, and gas. In the 2nd and 3rd trimesters, the enlarged uterus presses on the intestines, further slowing down digestion. Constipation occurs, which aggravates flatulence.

Foods rich in sugars, gluten and fiber also cause gas production. These are various types of cabbage, legumes, potatoes and rice. Fried, pickled and sweet foods are also slowly digested.

How to reduce bloating during pregnancy?

Increased flatulence is a normal occurrence in the life of an expectant mother. It does not require medical intervention, as the symptoms disappear on their own after childbirth. But there are ways to help ease the discomfort, for example:

  • There is often and little by little, so that the stomach is not full.
  • Drink plenty of clean water – 7-8 glasses a day.
  • Avoid fatty foods, sweets, carbonated drinks, fast food.
  • Eat slowly, chewing food thoroughly. Eating fast and on the go creates painful air pockets in the intestines.
  • Do not drink hot food with cold drinks.
  • Place your feet on a bench or sofa back after dinner.
  • Drink decoctions of chamomile, mint, dill, basil. These funds are only valid after the 22nd week.

These methods reduce discomfort to a minimum. Digestion is also improved by short walks after meals, gymnastics for pregnant women, dancing to music with a moderate rhythm.

Proper diet and physical activity can help cope with flatulence. If natural remedies fail, or bloating is accompanied by abdominal cramps and diarrhea, you should see your doctor. He will select medicines that are safe during pregnancy.
