In December I had ovarian surgery – a histopathological result – a corpus luteum cyst.
Before surgery, the only symptom of this cyst was 2-3 days of pre-period spotting. After the operation, my doctor said it was fine and lutein should help. I take it from the 16th day of the cycle for 10 days and it doesn’t help, the pre-period spotting (slight) still appears. I get my period exactly every 30 days. The doctor, knowing that I was planning a child, allowed me to try for it. Won’t the cyst they extracted from me and the little spotting before my period cause a miscarriage? This month I am about to stop lutein (because as the doctor said I take it too long) and I don’t really want to believe that I still have these spotting – they are small: 2, 3 days before my period. I don’t know anymore, maybe it’s normal? I’m just worried about a possible pregnancy! So I wanted to ask if the spotting and corpus luteum cysts are caused solely by a lack of progesterone (since lutein doesn’t help) and what tests can I do to check it? ~ Anna
First, you should ask why you were operated on. Probably because of the size of the cyst or the side effects that came with it. Secondly, spotting before menstruation is not a bad thing (if anatomical causes have been ruled out, of course). Third, the use of Lutein does not adversely affect the possible pregnancy or trying to get it. Ideally, you should do cycle monitoring by ultrasound and you will know if you are ovulating or not. And this is a key issue for you when it comes to trying for a child. After monitoring at least one cycle, you can consider what hormonal tests you should perform.
