Blackberry Triple Crown (Triple Crown): growing features

The unique dessert taste of this blackberry more than compensates for such subtlety as the average yield. Ladies and gentlemen, meet the magnificent and unique Blackberry Triple Crown.

Variety description

The Triple Crown variety is medium late – the fruits ripen massively by the end of July – the beginning of August. The plant forms a large, very powerful bush with semi-spreading shoots, which are directed either to the sides or up. The leaves are serrated, decorative, bright green in color. The blackberry bush is able to form lashes up to 3 m long. It is noteworthy that even in the first year after planting, the shoots can grow up to 2 m.

Blackberry Triple Crown (Triple Crown): growing features

The culture bears fruit with large berries, which are collected in numerous brushes. The fruits are resistant to direct sunlight – they do not bake, except in the absence of watering or at excessively high temperatures.

The description of the resistance of the Triple Crown to frost is standard for all blackberry varieties – it is very low, the plant necessarily needs shelter for the winter.

Advantages and disadvantages

The following qualities can be confidently attributed to the undoubted advantages of the variety:

  • This is an extremely tasty blackberry, distinguished by a delicate, very juicy berry flavor with cherry notes, moderately tart and piquant.
  • The berries are large, resistant to long-term storage and transportation.
  • The fruiting period is extended, and the berries are not prone to grinding by the end of the season: the bush gives the same size fruits as in the very beginning of August.
  • The variety is resistant to pests and diseases.
  • Berries are resistant to direct sunlight. As studies by blackberry pioneers show, Triple Crown fruits do not bake in the sun, although this does not mean that the bushes do not need shading.

But this blackberry also has weaknesses:

  • The variety cannot be called industrial, although its yield is quite high (especially for dessert blackberries). The bush is able to give up to 10 kg of fruit per season, but there are more generous blackberry varieties.
  • Triple Crown is a blackberry that is not particularly winter hardy, so if you live in the northern regions, the crop will most likely not have time to ripen in full due to the early autumn.
  • Low resistance to cold: without special protection against frost, such a bush will not survive the winter.

Thinness of planting and care

The triple crown is distinguished by its strength of growth: the ability to accelerate the growth of green mass. Therefore, there are some nuances in the care of such a culture.

Bushes of this variety should not be unnecessarily cut or rationed diligently. Due to the excess of vital energy, the Triple Crown Blackberry will form impenetrable thickets very quickly. This is the case when some thickening of the bush will only benefit him.

With increased planting density, you will be able to collect more berries, as the plants will not have the opportunity to diligently develop and grow leaves.

Blackberry Triple Crown (Triple Crown): growing features

If you live in the northern regions, but everyone really wants to see the Triple Crown on your site, moreover, to get a good harvest, then do not spare replacement shoots during spring pruning. Leaving only the strongest, viable whips, albeit in smaller quantities, you will soon wait for the harvest.

Here are all the differences between the care of Triple Crown blackberries and other varieties of the crop. The description of the remaining mandatory manipulations is the most familiar: weed removal, loosening, watering, top dressing. Do not forget also that the variety needs to install trellises next to the bushes: otherwise, it will be extremely difficult for you to take care of the bush and harvest in lush thickets.

Reproduction

The Triple Crown blackberry variety can be propagated by both rooting tops and root cuttings. As practice has shown, the Triple Crown takes root very well, without causing much trouble to the gardener: we habitually fix the shoot close to the soil, and leave it in this state for the winter.

Fighting diseases and pests

As already mentioned, this blackberry is particularly resistant to diseases, especially if you follow all the requirements for caring for the crop and prevent the development of weeds or waterlogging of the soil. Of the pests that can encroach on your Crown, the common aphid is the most common.

It is not difficult to fight aphids: dilute 200 g of tobacco dust per 10 liters of water, add 50 g of liquid laundry soap and run to the garden, spray the bushes with the resulting mixture. It is best to do this in the morning, before direct sunlight.

Do not give in to innovations, and especially when it comes to horticultural crops. Bolder! Try growing some Triple Crown blackberries. We assure you that everything will work out for you, and closer to autumn, all the neighbors will come to visit you to try the marvelous marvel – the wonderful Triple Crown blackberry.
