Black rosehip: beneficial properties

On thorny bushes with white flowers, as in the photo, a black rose appears in August. These unusual-colored fruits ripen on the prickly rose or prickly rose, common in Central Asia and Central Europe. The list of vitamins and other beneficial substances in its fruits is similar to red rose hips, but there is a slight difference.

Composition and useful properties of black rosehip

Black rose hips contain biologically active substances that kill bacteria and inhibit the growth of harmful microorganisms; fruits are rich in antioxidants. Rosehip is useful primarily for the prevention and treatment of diseases that are associated with a lack of vitamins in the body.

Red rose hips contain forty times more vitamin C than lemon. There is even more of this vitamin in black rose hips. In addition, the fruits contain:

  • thiamine;
  • riboflavin;
  • folic acid;
  • vitamins P, K, E;
  • mineral layers: Mg, K, Ca, Fe, P, Zn, Mn, Cu;
  • tannins;
  • organic acids.

Rosehip berries are harvested away from highways. Do this before the first frost. For long-term storage, rose hips are not frozen, but dried to preserve vitamins and all useful substances. Store no more than 2 years from the date of collection.

The prickly rose is the ancestor of many very beautiful varieties of roses. Due to its high tannin content, its dried fruits and leaves are used as a surrogate for tea. Rosehip fruits are edible in processed form, from which jam is made.

In folk medicine, a decoction, water and alcohol infusion of rose hips is used to treat many diseases:

  • beriberi;
  • anemia and exhaustion;
  • inflammation of the internal organs;
  • colds;
  • scarlet fever;
  • typhoid;
  • tuberculosis.

A decoction of rosehip seeds helps as a choleretic agent, as well as in the treatment of urolithiasis, diarrhea, gingivitis. Infusions and decoctions of rosehip are contraindicated in case of increased acidity of the stomach, thrombophlebitis, cholecystitis, and stomach ulcers. Drinking a large amount of rosehip broth is not recommended – due to the high content of vitamins in it, it can negatively affect the liver.

In cosmetology, a decoction of fruits and leaves is used for facial skin care and for baths. It softens, disinfects and nourishes the skin and helps prevent the appearance of wrinkles.

Black rose hips are distinguished by a high content of vitamin C. Vitamin tea, medicinal infusions and decoctions to strengthen immunity and heal from diseases are made from it, and are used for skin care.
