Bitburger

Beer Bitburger is in third place in the ranking of popularity in Germany. The trademark belongs to the company Bitburger Braugruppe GmbH, which unites five breweries. The company produces premium products from high quality raw materials using advanced technologies. Bitburger beer occupies 8% of the national market and is exported to 70 countries.

Historical information

The brewery was founded in 1817 by Johann Wallenborn in the small town of Bitburg in southwestern Germany. The company gained notoriety at the end of the XNUMXth century, when Ludwig Simon, the heir to the original owner, decided to brew his first lager, a bottom-fermented beer. This technology was widely used in the Czech Republic, but in Germany at that time it was practically not used. The Germans preferred to produce dark varieties obtained by top fermentation.

The novelty quickly gained popularity among the inhabitants of the region, and the construction of a new railway allowed the company to significantly increase sales. Over the next century, the company actively developed, introducing modern technologies, and by 1980 the plant was completely rebuilt. The private brewery has grown into a large industrial complex, which is still owned by the descendants of the Simon family.

Production features

The brewery purchases the two best hops from Hallertau and Holstum. Farmers collect inflorescences at the end of August, when the concentration of necessary substances in plants reaches its peak. Raw materials are checked twice – at the place of collection and upon receipt at the factory. Hops are used to make a liquid extract, which is then consumed throughout the year.

In production, resources are used from sources located deep underground. Volcanic rocks act as a natural filter, while enriching the water with mineral salts. The company has been growing its own yeast strains since 1913. Fungi reproduce at low temperatures for a long time. The culture is renewed every six weeks to avoid cell change due to environmental influences.

The plant purchases the highest quality malt from time-tested suppliers. The fermentation process takes about a week. The beer is then aged for up to 28 days in cellars at low temperatures. Finally, the foamy drink is filtered, stabilized and pasteurized. After that, the finished product enters the bottling shop. Every year, about 700 million bottles leave the production lines of the plant.

Interesting Facts

Bitburger beer appeared in the superhero action movie X-Men: First Class. The foamy drink was drunk by one of the main characters of the film – Magneto.

The popular alcoholic cocktail Bitburger Radler was created by accident by a Bavarian innkeeper. On a hot summer day in 1922, the drinking establishment was visited by many cyclists, and the supply of beer was almost exhausted. A resourceful restaurateur mixed beer with lemonade. Visitors liked the original taste, and the cocktail was widely used in German bars.
