Biodacin drops is an aminoglycoside antibiotic used topically to treat bacterial eye infections. It is one of the solutions for people struggling with inflammatory eye problems.
Biodacin eye drops – composition
The active substance of the preparation is amikacin – an antibiotic from the group of aminoglycosides. Amikacin is bactericidal, it is effective against many bacterial strains that cause eye infections. Applied topically to the eye, it penetrates the blood poorly and is unlikely to have systemic effects.
Biodacin eye drops – action
The preparation is recommended for the local treatment of acute and chronic bacterial eye infections, such as conjunctivitis, keratitis, inflammation of the edges of the eyelids and the lacrimal sac, barley, and as a prophylactic treatment before surgical procedures on the eyeball. Certain diseases and other circumstances may constitute a contraindication to the use or an indication for a change in the dosage of the preparation. In some situations it may be necessary to carry out certain check-ups. The preparation is intended only for external use, topically to the conjunctival sac. Do not inject into the eyeball.
Biodacin eye drops – dosage
Do not use the preparation longer than necessary. Long-term use of antibiotics may cause the overgrowth of resistant bacteria and fungi. It is recommended to be monitored for symptoms of new infections during the treatment period. If new bacterial or fungal infections appear during the application period (e.g. yeast infections), a doctor should be consulted immediately. The preparation may cause hypersensitivity reactions. Be careful.
Symptoms of hypersensitivity may include:
- itching of the eyelids
- edema,
- conjunctival redness.
If irritation or hypersensitivity symptoms occur, consult a physician as it may be necessary to discontinue use of the preparation. If you are infected with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, your doctor may prescribe a topical antibiotic and a systemic antibiotic at the same time, as this infection can cause severe damage to the eyeball or even blindness.
