What kind of procedure is hidden under the mysterious name “facial bio-reinforcement”, how effective is it, how is it carried out and what goals does it pursue? We answer all questions in detail.
What is facial skin bioreinforcement in cosmetology
In general, the reinforcement method has been known for a very long time. And you’ve probably heard or read about it. Remember, at one time, reinforcement with gold threads was popular? The essence was to introduce thin threads of gold under the skin, which:
created an artificial support for tissues, preventing them from sagging;
as a foreign body caused a protective reaction, that is, the production of collagen at the site of the introduction of the “stranger”. As a result, fibrous tissue was formed in the skin, which supported the frame of the face.
The basic principle of reinforcement has not changed, but the technology has. More practical, lighter and more compatible materials with the human body have appeared. Progress has also brought less traumatic ways to introduce them into the skin.

Today, cosmetology offers two main areas of reinforcement:
installation of self-absorbable polydioxanone threads – this material is used in surgery;
injection technique for introducing biogel (high density hyaluronic acid) – this is bio-reinforcement, or vector lifting, or mesolifting. Despite the fact that the gel has a high compatibility with the human body, the skin reacts to its sudden local appearance in a decent amount and concentration as if it were an outsider and builds up protection. After 3-4 months, the gel dissolves, and the protection and support in the form of a collagen network remains for a long time.
Advantages and disadvantages
If you compare bio-reinforcement with gel (“liquid threads”) with other thread techniques, its main advantage is its low trauma. The essence of the method lies in multiple microinjections of high density hyaluronic acid, while thread reinforcement involves punctures and “flashing” the skin at a fairly deep level.
So, the advantages of bio-reinforcement (using a gel):
minimal damage to tissues and blood vessels;
lack of pain and side effects;
short recovery period;
lack of special care.
The disadvantages of bioreinforcement are the flip side of its advantages. This relatively mild technique does not give such a clear effect as thread lifting, since the skin is almost not injured and does not move, which means that the response of the body (the formation of fibrous tissue) is insignificant.
To whom does
Bioreinforcement is most effective starting from the age of 35, when the first signs of loss of skin elasticity appear: deepening of the nasolabial folds, drooping of the corners of the mouth, slight violation of the face oval.
Beauticians who practice this method offer a simple but revealing test: tilt your head to your shoulder, if wrinkles appear and your face slightly floats to the side, you can reinforce.
Bioreinforcement creates a supporting frame.
But with more pronounced deformations, which usually occur after 50 with a change in hormonal status (sagging skin, folds, creases, obvious without any tests and inclinations), hyaluronic acid will not give the desired lifting. The skin will become more full, smooth, radiant, but it will not be possible to lift the tissues.
Effect of the procedure
The following effects can be expected from bioreinforcement:
more elastic tightened skin;
smoothness and “fullness”;
a clearer oval of the face;
reducing the severity of nasolabial folds;
more pronounced cheekbones.
However, much depends on the source data. The primary course is usually carried out – three sessions with an interval of two weeks. Then, if necessary, add two more sessions once a month. It is important to understand that the formation of its own proteins in the skin takes time. Changes become visible after about the second procedure, and then increase with each subsequent session.
Types of bioreinforcement
So, there are two types of face reinforcement.
Threads
Reinforcement with threads can be carried out:
with tissue movement and fixation – then the modeling effect will be more pronounced;
without movement – to stimulate the formation of their own protein compounds. In both cases, as a rule, threads made from biodegradable material are used.
Fillers
How is the reinforcement with threads
This method is considered a minimally invasive alternative to a surgical facelift. The threads are inserted deep into the skin through punctures using a cannula along traced vectors from the periphery of the face to the middle. The cannula pushes the tissues apart, opening the way for the thread that trails behind it. Then the needle is removed, and the thread remains.
Previously, along the same lines, the face is chipped with an anesthetic, which is quite painful. But the subsequent “flashing” of the face is almost not noticeable. The procedure lasts an average of 30 minutes – the time depends on the number of threads, and this in turn is determined by the scale of the problem.
The more popular reinforcement option is with skin movement. For this, a thread with scanty notches is used, which cling to the tissues and help to slightly move them in a given direction.
Setting threads with tissue movement is indicated for severe ptosis.
You need to be prepared for soreness and swelling on average within a week. A complete list of restrictions and rules of conduct will be reported by the beautician. It is advisable to find out the details before the procedure in order to have a clear idea of what awaits you and survive the rehabilitation process with minimal losses.
Filler reinforcement technique
After applying the anesthetic cream, the beautician draws a stencil on the face. The gel (filler) is injected using a linear technique: the drug is injected at the moment when the doctor removes the needle, leaving the thinnest thread at the injection site. Thus, the entire face is “sewn”, in the horizontal and vertical directions. The cobweb pattern (frequency and distance between the points and lines of introduction) is selected individually.
Skin care after the procedure
After the injection of the gel, only subtle injection marks remain on the skin, which disappear the next day, bruises (if they remain) will disappear in 3-5 days. After the introduction of biogel, you can continue the usual care, as well as after mesotherapy. There is only one limitation: for the duration of the course, it is better to refrain from visiting the solarium, baths, saunas, so that the active thermal effect does not interfere with the natural process of skin restoration.
Overview of care products
Since the main active ingredient in bio-reinforcement is hyaluronic acid, we have compiled an overview of the most intensive products with this substance for home care. Serums are among them.
Serum for sensitive skin Hyalu B5, La Roche-Posay
The gel-textured serum absorbs quickly to instantly give skin a smoother, more radiant appearance, and with regular use, it helps improve skin firmness and reduce wrinkles.
Anti-aging face serum Revitalift filler [+Hyaluronic acid], L’Oréal Paris
This serum uses low molecular weight hyaluronic acid, which has the ability to penetrate the epidermis and sort of straighten wrinkles from the inside.
Daily gel-serum for skin exposed to aggressive external influences, Mineral 89, Vichy
The formula for intense hydration and strengthening of the skin barrier is based on a combination of hydrants: hyaluronic acid, glycerin and Vichy mineralizing water, which accounts for 89% of the composition.
Intensive moisturizing gel Hydrating B5, SkinCeuticals
The gel has an intense moisturizing effect that transforms the skin.
Hyaluro-concentrate for the skin of the face and neck in ampoules “Revitalift Filler [+ Hyaluronic Acid]”, L’Oréal Paris
This ampoule contains a well-established pair – hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5. The product perfectly copes with the functions assigned to it – to saturate the skin with moisture and make it more elastic.
