Diseases of the bile ducts may be related to the biliary system as a whole (gallbladder, intrahepatic bile ducts, common bile duct), or they may concern selected parts of it. Biliary movement disorders are usually inflammatory or urolithiasis.

Biliary motor dysfunction usually has the following profile:

• dyskinetic,

• inflammatory,

• stones,

• cancerous.

Motor dysfunction of the biliary tract – causes

Some hyper-excitable patients complain of symptoms that may be a sign of chronic inflammation of the gallbladder. Specialized tests may not reveal inflammation and the presence of parasites or stones. Then it is believed that the symptoms communicated by patients are caused by disturbances in the motor functions of the gallbladder and sphincters.

Symptoms of motor dysfunction of the biliary tract

The most common symptoms of this ailment are:

  1. pain ailments located in the right hypochondrium,
  2. acute pain manifested in stressful situations or after eating fatty / spicy foods. It occurs as a result of the desynchronization of the gallbladder contractions and the relaxation of the sphincters,
  3. depressive states, decrease in energy,
  4. vomiting,
  5. nausea,
  6. a feeling of bitter taste in the mouth (especially in the morning), occurs due to the backflow of bile from the duodenum to the stomach, and then to the esophagus.
  7. bad breath due to the backflow of bile in the stomach and esophagus,
  8. diarrhea,
  9. constipation
  10. loss of appetite
  11. problems with sleeping,
  12. decreased libido,
  13. menstrual disorders
  14. general feeling of being unwell.

Diagnosis and treatment of biliary motor dysfunction

In the diagnosis of biliary motor disorders, it is first of all necessary to eliminate:

  1. inflammation,
  2. tumor,
  3. other diseases of the biliary tract.

Treatment

Treatment of biliary movement disorders is aimed at calming and strengthening the patient’s nervous system. In the case of increased excitability and neurovascular reactivity, measures to alleviate reactive effects are indicated. Bile diodes are also beneficial.

In disorders with excessive tension of the bladder and bile ducts – you should take preparations to relieve tension.

In the case of low wall tension and poor contractility of the gallbladder and bile ducts – the doctor prescribes preparations that are to shrink them, and thus empty the expanded gallbladder.

Treatment of biliary movement disorders takes time and should be carried out under the supervision of a specialist who selects the therapy based on the changes and individual needs of the patient.

How to prevent disorders?

Prophylaxis in motor disorders of the biliary tract consists in:

  1. a proper diet, in which you should limit baked and fried foods, too much animal fats, washing down with these foods with cold drinks, eating quick meals, excess sauces and eating heavy soups, whitened e.g. with cream.
  2. avoiding stress and nervous situations.
