What is called the “bikini line” actually corresponds to the pubis in women (but also increasingly in men), which is a hairy area. Initially, waxing consisted of removing the hairs that were visible when you are in a swimsuit (or panties). But over the years, especially since the mid-twentieth century, the shape of this jersey has reduced, to see the appearance of high-cut jerseys, Brazilian jerseys, even the full jersey. This practice, totally aesthetic, depends on everyone’s tastes, and should in no case be experienced as an obligation, a gesture of hygiene, medical or other: the hairs on the vulva are neither dirty, nor dangerous, nor bothersome. day-to-day .

There are different ways to wax your bikini line. The first is to do it in a beauty salon. In this case, hair removal is performed with hot wax (traditional, made of sugar and water, or chemical), with or without strips of paper to peel it off. Then, the “finishes” are done with tweezers. You can also use pulsed light hair removal, which we will talk about later. Finally, at home, hair removal can also be done with wax, by making it at home or by buying it in the trade. The bikini line can also be shaved with a razor, an electric epilator or using a depilatory cream. These techniques, however, do not last as long, and can be more dangerous (razor cuts, allergies to cream, etc.). On the other hand, razor and cream are much less painful, as long as the hair is not pulled out.

A so-called “semi-integral” or high-cut swimsuit is a smaller form of bikini waxing than the classic swimsuit, which consists of epilating only the hairs that protrude from the panties, that is to say those located on the bikini line. the top of the pubis, and on the inner edges of the thighs. The high-cut bikini line drops lower above the lips and on the labia majora.

The Brazilian swimsuit, sometimes called a “metro ticket”, generally corresponds to a very indented depilation of the swimsuit. It was called like that in reference to the swimsuits in vogue in Brazil, often of thong shape, which were very indented and hinted at part of the pubis. The pubic hair is all removed, leaving only a rectangle or a small shape. Likewise, the inner edges of the thighs are plucked too. However, the area between the buttocks is left as it is. This hair removal is close to the full bikini line, but here, the labia minora retain their hair.

With waxing, or with depilatory cream, it is possible to wax the labia minora and labia majora. This is particularly the case with the full bikini, which consists of removing all the hair from the vulva, the inter-gluteal fold and the lips. Note that you can apply numbing cream to the zeone before waxing. On the other hand, it is strongly advised not to pluck your lips with a razor. Indeed, the skin is not smooth there, and cuts are very common. The area being very fragile and not very accessible, it is therefore possible to injure yourself while shaving. The same goes for the epilator, which works thanks to a wheel that turns and pulls out the hairs: the skin of the lips could get stuck in the gear and hurt you very badly.

Finally, there is a last method, available in institutes, but also more and more at home, thanks to devices sold in stores, which allows hair removal permanently with pulsed light. This technique involves sending a laser-like light on the skin, which targets the hair bulb to burn it. Ultimately, after ten sessions for an area such as the jersey, the goal is to have no hair. Be careful, there are contraindications (dark skin, etc.) and it is possible that there are negative effects on the skin in the long term.
