Better than store-bought: how to make your own bleach

There are several ways to solve the problem: soaking the laundry for several hours, washing it by hand, raising the temperature of the water during washing, or even arranging a boiling session. Or you can simply “pump” store-bought bleach, increasing its effectiveness several times.

The author of home life hacks Carolina Macauley shared her own way. She blogs on Instagram and TikTok, publishing simple solutions to common everyday problems: how to clean the microwave from the inside, deal with dirt in the bathroom, how to clean the shower or kettle with the tools that are almost always at hand.

How to bleach yellowed laundry: a step by step recipe

You will need: baking soda, borax (or borax – sodium tetraborate, powder can be bought at any online store, it costs about 350 rubles for a 300-gram pack), oxygen bleach and some warm water.

What to do

Step 1. In a bowl, combine a cup of baking soda, a cup of borax, and half a cup of bleach. A cup is a conditional measure of volume; you can use any container, for example, a measuring spoon for washing powder. The main condition is to observe proportions.

Step 2. Add water little by little, stirring the powder continuously. There should be enough liquid so that the mixture turns into a kind of wet sand, but does not begin to dissolve.

Step 3. Place the mixture in a silicone ice cube tray and let dry.

Step 4. Store the resulting cubes in a sealed container in a dry place.

Step 5. For white laundry, add one cube of bleach directly to the drum, placing it on top of the dry laundry.

Important! Make sure the item can be washed with bleach – this should be indicated on the label. You can read HERE how to read the labels on the laundry tags.
